Shrub or Shrub like Rose for Ugly Spot in my Yard!
Comments (13)Nat, I don't mean to throw a monkey wrench into your list but I took out Ducher because I could not keep black spot off of it. Thrips loved it and so did the Japanese beetles. It was an underperformer for me, here in Atlanta. Others love it, so thatÂs just my experience. Gruss An Aachen is a great rose but he needs to be sprayed here if you want him to look good--if not, you're going to see a lot more cane. BUT, he does respond well to occasional spraying and he does bloom even when I let him get spotty. BelindaÂs Dream is also nice but does better with some spray. BTW, her blooms are much larger and more impressive in the cooler weather of the spring and fall. Of the ones youÂve listed, Marie Daly is the most disease resistant and has the most continual bloom. The fragrance also carries on the breezeÂwhich I really like. SdLM is another great rose. Mine does get some BS but with a little shot of anti-fungal spray every now and then, she does well. The blooms are beautiful and smell great. Neither SdLM or MD are very large, thoughÂboth maybe 3.5 to 4 feet tall and wide. What about Duchesse de Brabant? SheÂs on JeanÂs list that you mentioned and she made the Earthkind list in Texas. She has beautiful pink blooms that smell like raspberries to me. Mine is taller than wide but I've heard others report that their DdB are larger. I just went out and would call mine "lightly thorny". Although she does have some thorns, it seems like way less than others like her neighbor, Buff Beauty. Hope this information helps. Here is a link that might be useful: Duchesse de Brabant...See MoreAm I crazy for thinking brick shouldn't go up while I'm abroad?
Comments (5)I would definitely wait until I came back. Brick suppliers are notorious for sending out multiple lot runs of brick for 1 job. There can be huge color variation between lots that you may not notice until you're looking at a giant expanse of wall. We had 3 different lot#s show up in our shipment--only 1 was the same as the brick they had already put down for the foundation. I noticed it and brought it to the GC's attention. The brick supplier apologized and brought out more brick in the correct lot. Our framer was working on a gorgeous house in the town I work in that had a brick lot problem--beautiful large Georgian-Federalist style house. There was a definite line that ran across the front of the house about 2/3 of the way up where you could clearly see a different lot of brick was used--the options were to tear down the wall and start over, live with it as-is, or paint the brick. They now have a beautiful very large Georgian-Federalist style home in a pale yellow color....See MoreColoring in the architect's elevations
Comments (3)Hey there. For some reason, I'm not getting notifications even though I click the button to be notified. Our backsplash is 2x8 subway tile. The area behind the stove is open into the dining room. I ordered a slab of hickory butcher block to go in that pass-through. The elevation views were generated by our architect -- I don't know what he uses but I will ask. He sent us images so I grabbed a portion of those images and made it the bottom layer in iDraw. Alas, there are some changes that needed to be made for structural purposes which change the end design, it will look mostly like this. I hope. *grin*...See MoreDo Sans growers go stir crazy in winter?
Comments (20)Wow, that's just wonderful, like living sculpture! Wish I could find something so statuesque & regal, TFS. This is my new friend, settling in at my office, in an unused room. I like this shape, had to remove a yellowing outer leaf, so it lost its symmetry, but I do like its form. It'll be the first Sans I winter over in the office, a Moonshine from Stush, thanks again. Should be interesting. I had separated off 2 pups which are growing at home. So I've got some newcomers Sans to winter over at home too. Should be fun to experiment, & see which grows faster: left is potted in gritty, right in a more bark based mix. Only had odds & ends on hand, so am experimenting. Middle ground plant is in more usual pumice based mix. That Sans. in the back of the pic, is my Hydro Sans. lives in only Leca stones w/ some water, more than 7 yrs old now. I need to find a source for larger netted pots....See Morecaflowerluver
