ready for living room overhaul but can't get over awkward room. help!
Comments (13)Love the color of the walls and that wonderful paneled wall. I agree that the tv is in the right place on the paneled wall. Here is a floor plan which may work for you. Use the space that is not under the catwalk above as the seating area. This way the walk thru will be under the lower ceiling. Tuck a 87" wide sofa with a chaise end on the right of the fireplace with a console behind. Install wall sconces for lighting at the console instead of lamps. Lose the big lamp (it's ver nice) and use smaller scaled floor lamps. Get a matching 66" loveseat and angle off the sofa. this will create a more open layout and not so boxed off from the kitchen. Add two matching swivel chairs. The coffee table is a 48" diameter with four round ottomans or floor pillows. The rug is 12 x 15 so that it anchors the furniture and includes the paneled wall and the fireplace into one cohesive area. Along the staircase wall is 10" deep low cabinet or bookcase up to the ceiling for games, books, etc. Something like an Ikea Pax with frosted doors, simple and functional for storage. Hope this helps....See MoreTiny living room with awkward layout
Comments (1)No tv on that pony wall.. keep the tv where it is and do a wall mount unit for the equipment if need be. In smaller space like this, I would do more round shapes for the coffee table, and dining table. I might a couch with a lounge at one end for relaxing if possible. You could also do a drop leaf table in the dining area, so it can be made smaller when not in use....See MoreI find our living room awkward. How can I maximise the space?
Comments (20)I think I would also move the TV to the 9'3" wall as Barnes Custom Builders suggested. I would then move your couch to the 5'11" wall (pulling it away from the wall so the vent can function). Then, I would flank the chunky chair to the left side of the couch. I would purchase a TV credenza and mount TV above. I would then fill the previous TV location with a credenza with a lamp and a mirror. I would also get a single large piece of artwork for the 11'9" wall. I would get rid of the bent wood chair as you suggested. Here's an option for a rug, credenza, media console, lamp and mirror... Comments (5)Thanks so much everyone! Not sure why we placed the chair on the right of the fireplace. I guess for it to feel closed in and a little cozier. I'll definitely move it back to the left! Currently this is the existing furniture that we have, but we're going to wait until our toddler is a little older before investing in better items (chairs and couch). Our dining space is slighting behind and to the right of the couch, so I'm trying to get a sense of what will work in the space decor and furniture wise. Would you recommend putting any art or floating shelves on the wall, to the left of the fireplace? Thanks so much again!! Great feedback!...See MorePaige Lee
