Help me brighten up my dark kitchen - pics
Comments (17)I think maybe I would paint the walls a lighter shade of the same color, and maybe change the shades of the pendant lights so they are lighter and brighter. I also wonder what kind of bulbs that you have in your light fixtures. Could they be a higher wattage? That would brighten things up a bit. I also don't see a backsplash. A backsplash with some lite reflective glass tile would brighten things up a lot I think. When doing the backsplash, I would add a metallic piece to it. The shine from the metal in the backsplash along with the glass tile will reflect a lot of light and bounce it around some. You might also consider getting some clear glass shades for the chandelier over the kitchen table. That would also bounce some light around. I have a lighter shade of gold in my kitchen and family room and I love it too....See MoreHow should I brighten up my kitchen? Part 2
Comments (16)I looked back over your pics this morning with pleasure, and I just thought of something. Can the light over the island be lowered? More light on the front of the cabinets would really make the room feel lighter. Can't tell from the pics if dropping the light puts it in the way or not. The chandelier style is the problem--there is so much metal below the bulbs that getting the bulbs where you would like them just may not work. Not a big project if it will help....See MoreNeed a Challenge? Help me update my kitchen!
Comments (6)Definitely paint cabinets. I like white--it is timeless. If you do the "wood" planks, maybe choose a dark shade--kind of in right now. To me, simple hardware is pretty timeless too--knobs or simple bin pulls, etc. Could you mount the microwave on a shelf under the short cab that is where the fridge used to be? Also, there are Sharp microwaves that can mount under cabinets. You could look into that. Are you keeping the stove? If you can afford it, replacing that would be a nice update. Not sure what your budget is. Are you going to do a backsplash? Beadboard might be a good option. As for colors, what colors are the rooms next to this one? Have a nice weekend. I look forward to seeing what others say....See MoreLiving room help! How can I brighten up this space??
Comments (2)It's a nice room and you've done a pretty good job. A few tweaks though,,,,exchange the short plant for a taller plant, in that corner. If you can't do a taller one, then hang the one you have from the ceiling or put it on a taller, mini table. put the plant on something like this. Target..Project 62 That sectional, (which really is too big for this room) in front of that door, really closes off the room (visually and literally). if you could, at some point, you could use separate pieces, that would be great. going w/a round, open style coffee table will soften some of those square edgesTarget. a single sofa against the long wall, some colored pillows, artwork, the coffee table/bench (using one like this that's 'open' looking, gives the illusion of more space) the blue velvet chair for some accent colors,,,,this is what you need in your space. for instance, imagine if you removed that smaller end of the sofa and had something like this against that wall or this one. BTW, these colors, below, would look great in your room. Do you have any artwork? Framed pictures, tapestry, shelving,,,anything? here is a simple example that you could do. Target has cute accessories like little tables, pillows, wall decor, etc, that you could use. bring in some color w/the arrangement like they done here, for behind your sofa. the pics behind this sofa are hung a bit high, but should give you an idea of how to accessorize your room. this would also be a better table for you. It's mainly that sectional that is really making this room heavy. if you need window coverings, I keep it sleek w/some inset blinds of some sort....See Moreeam44
