What colours should we paint our exterior house?
Comments (16)The dilemma you have is how to stay somewhat true to the style of the exterior of the home, while finding your happy place with Nordic look. With your brick, I think some form of blue with white trim would achieve that sweet spot. This is a blue/gray with close to your brick. this is a good combination. They used black on the windows which I think looks very classic. By keeping the exterior to two paint colors you will minimize the "Gingerbread" look. That is the trick here. What a great home and I am so happy you are taking care of a great old home! Love that....See MoreWhat colors should we paint our house exterior?
Comments (0)We've bought a fixer upper and want to repaint the exterior. What color scheme would you recommend? We can't go too light as we have red soil which stains, as well as dogs and a kid. The roof tiles are pretty old but we're keeping them, and their color is a grey brown color as they are aged terracotta....See MoreWhat color should we paint our house?
Comments (15)You don't apply paint to cedar unless you want it to peel off. Cedar gets stained, and since your exterior has not been maintained it has to be cleaned first before anything is applied. When you wash the siding you may be surprised with the results. Cedar is a very forgiving, low-maintenance exterior if maintained. If after the cedar is cleaned you still want to stain it check into these stains....See MoreWhat color should we paint/stain our house?
Comments (26)Be sure to research pros and cons of using paint on redwood vs solid stain. My house has cedar siding that was neglected. I had to replace some damaged wood, so I chose a solid acrylic siding stain (Cabot) to cover everything up. It has a matte finish (not my favorite), but I am pretty sure it’s not going to peel. It goes on like paint, sinks into the wood, and covers really well with 2 coats. It will need refreshing every five years. I don’t expect it to need scraping or a lot of prep like the peeling paint I see on houses near me. If you choose a stain, you will be limited to midtone and darker colors. They have a whiter base, I think, but it got bad reviews IIRC. You can call them for color suggestions. I am using sagebrush, which is a very organic green that changes with light. My house tends to disappear into the landscape, which was the goal. They probably have colors that will blend with your stone....See MoreAnna (6B/7A in MD)
