That armoire needs a different home , do you not have a closet? That is a small space and IMO all furniture in there should be lower to not close it in. The fabric is fun , I hate jute rugs except for exterir mat at a door, they feel horrible on bare feet . You need a bed with headboard for sure I love the idea of a coverlet instead of a duvet as for bed style get whatever you like and then add some night stands that work with the bed. I honestly thin the dog beds will need to be added after all teh stuff you need but that armoire needs to go.

The armoire is very loved by my husband and I. While I know it is not optimal in the room, it will stay.

Your style is fun and fresh, and I love that you want to honor the past of the armoire by continuing to use it. So much better than tossing aside something so lovely in favor of cheap IKEA storage, which many seem prone to do these days. I just wanted to say that I adore that fabric and think your thoughts of combining a modern element and an organic rug are spot on. Oh, and kitty is totally adorbs.

You said iron bed and it made me think of one I saw recently on the Crate and Barrel site. I don’t know your budget, but just think it has such a unique look ... would be a great balance (if not too tall, of course) of a bit of traditional glamour to go with the armoire, and a more contemporary design and finish. I like your idea of a jute or sisal rug, too, which would bring in great texture and a casual feel.

I saw this bedroom and it reminded me of yours. I think it can work to balance out the room, just by getting a bed frame like the one in this bedroom and adding drapes to the window to balance out the room.

I love your heirloom and I think it adds a European flair to the space. I am also certain that in real life, with the cathedral arched ceilings the space feels airy and not small at all. Since you have sconces tall lamps will not work but I feel tall objects on the night stands, like vases or urns, might help balance the armoire's height. Your fabric choice makes me smile!

The armoire does look like it protrudes past the doorway, which is pretty awkward. Isn't there another spot it can go where that wouldn't be the case? What about the other longer wall?

Is jute or sisal compatible with your cat? I love the look but couldn't have it in my house with my three cats. ALL upholstery is now chosen to at least be as cat-resistant as possible, after a few misguided purchases early on (faux leather is a definite no-no in my house).

By itself, I find the elephant print a bit busy (but fabulous!), so I'd pair it with solid pillowcases and shams and make sure the eye has places to rest in the room as a whole.

The armoire doesn't protrude past the doorway. There are 2 inches between the armoire's crown and the door trim. I agree it should be pushed further to the wall, I think we didn't get around to getting it back in position after we tried on the wall across from the bed. It is pretty tough to move.

@njmomma That's a great four poster bed, but our ceiling starts to slope down too soon for a 4 poster to work.

Here is a bed we were considering. Before the quarantine we even went to see it and sit on it to make sure we like the feel of the headboard for sitting in bed and reading. It comes in natural iron and many colors. I never ordered it because I couldnt decide if I should do iron or a color.

I went to your link and they have a lot of nice nightstands ... my opinion is that I’d get an all wood one, with no metal (since the bed is all metal).

I don’t know if these collages help, but just to show somewhat of an idea of these in the room.

Just for mock-ups, I used a tasseled jute rug. I have a Sisal runner and four cats ... only one scratches it once in a while, doesn’t hurt it, and I don’t find it uncomfortable under bare feet. But that’s just my experience, everyone’s mileage varies.

If you decide against a natural fiber rug, I’d most likely do something in a solid, soft, neutral color, so that your awesome fabric has the spotlight. :)

Have some of you ever spent time in Europe? I’m not asking in a snarky way, just wondering. Everywhere we rented when we lived in various countries had ginormous wardrobes in the rooms. It wasn’t a big deal at all. We got used to it, found it cozy. :)

Plus, I’d be willing to bet a roll of toilet paper — maybe even two — it doesn’t feel as cramped in real life as a couple of photo angles make it seem.

I love the fabric; it adds so much life to the space. I would not get a solid headboard because the armoire is such a large, solid presence that I think you need something that won't take up too much visual space. The one you are considering looks nice because it has a presence, but not too much of one.

JInx - I grew up with my off the boat Eastern European grandparents, you are right having a big piece of sturdy wooden furniture in the bedroom provides a sense of stability and security. We are not in earthquake country, I am not worried about being crushed. :)

I ordered the following samples, I have a proclivity for Saffron, Sage, and Cognac, And, saffron is so happy!

I like them all! Can’t choose, just have them paint each rail a different color. You can start a new trend. 😁

But seriously, very tough choice. I’m not loving the tangerine as much as the others, just because I think it’s such a strong color and might possibly limit future room decisions.

I like it, I'd just scoot it over to meet the wall. Love the fabric you've chosen for the coverlet. Also, just want to add, I LOVE the way jute rugs feel underfoot. Like a little foot massage.

What a nice room! Love the window sill and white walls. Great scandi feel, indeed. Also love the armoire and its contrast with the white walls and spare modern style. Agree with scooting it towards the wall a smidge or two more. That R&B bed and the elephant print are gorgeous. When I saw the print, I thought why not use that fabric as a headboard? Either hung from a pole to match the sill or covering a padded board. (Whatever is easier to clean.) To my eye, the "sill" gives the feeling of a headboard. In the pics at least. I'd keep the rest of the bedding mostly white. I think a dark vertical print across the armoire would look good too. I'd choose sleek and closed nightstands and add a tall-ish white ceramic vase to hold some greenery on one or both. I'm not a fan of large rugs in bedrooms simply because I hate vacuuming and I have a dust mite allergy. If I had a concrete floor, I think I'd opt for washable area rugs on each bedside. Hope you'll share pics when it's "done",

Sorry, but not seeing the practicality of adding a bench in this small room, Maureen Fereira. IMO, this room needs a few "tweaks", not "a lot of help". You mention Manhattan Home Design and Barcelona Designs in all your comments. Wonder why that is. ;-)

Local has good tastes and she'd move the armoire if it was in the way. Take into consideration the ceiling appears to be high so the armoire is a good fit.
