Challenging room for sure, but I would suggest you don’t try too hard for symmetry. Based on your fp style ( love your tile choice) and furniture you prefer more contemporary look, and asymmetrical is common in contemporary and modern styles. See photo below where furniture is not centered to FP, that’s what I suggest you do, and especially because room has a border. You are wise to put things on hold until furniture placement is worked out. I think even though the FP is off Center the room can still be balanced without being symmetrical. I suggest to try to center rug in border, and then switching chairs and sofa placement to see how that looks.

If you need a fan, get something a bit more mod looking that works w/your fireplace. white or wood, doesn't matter, as long as it's on the sleek side.

You want contrast? paint your white doors Cheating Heart. or try these darker purple tones that work w/your rug color

Stick a tall plant in the corner by the window.

Bring in some artwork for the walls.

You all gave great ideas. Thanks! Many said switch the furniture and work within the inlay! I think now we can start to add pieces. Yes to lots of art- I adore large paintings. No way to that fan! Thanks! Rug really is the “cloudy day” commented in another post, the colors are chocolate, mushroom, tan... yep, I’m bringing some beige back in a better way (the hope!) But mostly because hubby adores brown/beige. I’ll find some great contrast colors in accents. Love your lilac plan. It’s beautiful. I’m just not a lilac kinda girl- wardrobe or decor. Maybe someday! New layout looks better. I think sofa could come forward onto the rug more, it doesn’t need to be against wall. Above everdeb added a photo showing a modern chair and ottoman. I could see something like it or similar angled in corner(not the window corner) see photo below. This could be a good spot to relax by FP with that glass of wine.

in a fireplace room now more contemporary-sleek ... black doors would seem an extra sleek?... if black, would you be able to have softness quite as well. Black trim seems popular, and some would add furry rug, etc....

Do you want patterns? do you want to add feeling in this room as the red rug adds over there? just thinking....

Some ideas

My view about both window curtains [at side and high], and nothing high on the fp --- celerygirl's large wall of frames helps a balance, because it's high up in the room. [I hope it's coming across.] I guess I mean that if you don't want art that decorates the fp, at least have something that lifts the eyes, and prevents too minimal a look... just me... ?

I like the rug but it is too small. As for art, do you have a favorite animal, vacation memory or architectural building around which to base a grouping? I wouldn't get a huge coffee table unless you intend to pull all the seating within 12-18" of it. "C" tables might be a more interesting way to handle where people put down their drinks.
