Hi there!

If I were to work on improving this space here's what I would do first: Scrape what looks like a popcorn ceiling and install two or three 4" LED can lights (depending on length of hall/entry) down the center of your ceiling. A simple lighting change will make a huge difference! Depending on what the other end of this hall looks like I might do the following: Paint the baseboard/crown white (it will match the door trim), but I would probably only do this if the hall ends on its own, and doesn't open into the rest of the house-otherwise to make that work you might have to paint a LOT of trim. Then I would paint the walls either Benjamin Moore's Simply white (slightly warm) or Chantilly Lace (a little cool with slight grey undertone, but a great true white) to brighten the space. If you really want a "wow!" factor to spice things up here, a color on the ceiling could do the trick-without making the hallway feel narrow and cramped. It's bold, but almost always pays off! Beyond that, I would keep art pieces small, and concentrated on the left, arranged in a gallery wall. Hope this helps!

A more interesting fixture and a brighter colored runner will do wonders. Think about a small, adorable chandelier that can throw interesting light on your non-popcorn ceiling.
