I don't know why I've been so resistant to growing Princess Alexandra of Kent and Munstead Wood. By all accounts these are great roses that should do well for me. Instead I keep trying Abraham Darby, whose flowers fry as soon as the sun touches them, and whose flowers frequently open a crayola orange, which I don't like. One day I will learn to grow what does well for me rather than pursuing things that don't work. 3 votes for Pretty Jessica. I've gotta look at that again. mustbnuts: Don't give up on Alnwick Castle yet. I've had mine only two years, so far it seems to be vigorous with great fragrance. The flowers get damaged after a few days in the heat, but cut well, and it keeps growing and putting out flowers in the heat. I hadn't read that Pretty Jessica does well in heat, so one more on my list! Thanks for quenching my desire for Jude. I had a sniff of this in California, and have wanted it since, but the color is wrong for my garden, and it has never looked good at the rose garden here. Eyes for You is supposed to do well in the heat, with the Hulthemia background. I'd like to hear about it. Lynn: I'm surprised that Mary Rose does that well for you. I have Winchester Cathedral, and it does well enough, but the flowers are shrunken and deformed in the heat. I wonder if I should give Mary Rose a try? It's so great to have input from people with lots of experience!

I’ve been wondering if I should have gotten Darcey Bussel instead of Munstead Wood. MW is said to be much more fragrant, but in my garden it is only fragrant when conditions are just right. It’s an okay bloomer, but flowers lose their form, size and color in the heat of summer. The flowers crisp quickly in our dry summer heat. The spring and fall flowers are wonderful though. Sheila, do you have a MW? If so, how does it compare to DB? Stephanie? Bishop’s Castle would happily grow to 6 feet in my garden if well irrigated. I keep mine rather dry and the flowers are smaller, but it mostly stays about 4 feet and bushy. When the late summer monsoons come and the weather cools down, it shoots up taller basals that get pruned down in the winter.

She was supposed to be Jude the Obscure!! :( I had to look her up and only found a few pictures with the comments that she did not rebloom much ( more like a once bloomer ) and grew tall like a climber in zone 7.
