What color should we paint our exterior brick??
Comments (10)To me, shutters look dumb when they can't possibly cover the windows that they flank. Painting brick will be turning a low- maintenance exterior surface into a relatively high high-maintenance surface. That is not what I would be wishing for on my house. Apart than the shutters, it is nice-looking house from the street. I would not mess with it for a while. The interior shots make it look like some nice spaces too. If I owned it, I would be jumping around like your girls are....See MoreNeed help with paint color for brick fireplace wall
Comments (1)What if you painted the mantle to match the walls? I have a 70s brick fireplace, brick to ceiling by not full width of wall. I've been researching and found instructions on cleaning the brick then putting something on it to help keep it clean and add a bit of sheen. We're not going to paint the brick, but will change the wall color around it and make a new mantle. 2016 version 2017 version Still looking for the right color for the walls. It has recirculating vents with fans to distribute heat. I keep having visions of painting them in hippie colors. So far, I've restrained my self....See MoreOld House... New Color? Painted Brick?
Comments (7)In my experience your house would benefit from painting (siding and brick). Just remember, once painted, brick can never be unpainted. So, if you commit to paint the brick it will be a forever commitment. Yest to trimming the trees around the house (if possible). I agree with cat_ky about hiring a landscaper or landscape architect. They should be able to produce a design that accentuates the house. If you are replacing the garage door I would replace it with one that has light (windows) so that door doesn't appear as just an expanse of wood. Operable shutters would be an awesome addition. Your entry porch could use some enhancement. If the floor of the porch is more than 30" above grade a railing would probably be required. Good luck!...See MoreOur exterior brick house needs to get her groove back *Updated*
Comments (54)Update: We painted the gutters and soffits Benjamin Moore Dragon's Breath and the columns and windows the same color, but desaturated. Changed out the lights, updated furniture, removed shutters and added horizontal fence/gate. We ripped up the hedges in our beds and planted birds of paradise, gingers, a banana tree and vincas. Over time they will fill nicely. Our beautiful oak tree's roots are right below the walkway, and we decided it wasn't wise to mess with it. The week we finished, our dream home down the block went up for sale, and we made an offer. Thankfully since we have invested so much time and love into our home (with a lot of guidance from Houzz) and it sold within 24 hours. So we passed the "finish line" for our current home, and will thankfully we able to admire her beauty when walking the neighborhood. Thanks everyone for your input, and I hope the pictures help others looking to update a side century ranch home!...See Moresuezbell
