Ideas for refinishing fireplace

Brandi Adams

We have a 1912 craftsman. At some point, the original fireplace was refaced with mid century stone and widened. The stone didn’t match the aesthetic of the house and it was widened to the point that it touched the windows and looked out of proportion with the space. We’ve removed the stone, the damaged damper and damaged firebox. We’ve decided to use an Opti Myst electric insert for a variety of reasons. I've attached a picture of the one we’re planning to use. It allows us a lot of flexibility with refinishing the interior “firebox“ area, the face and mantel. I’ve attached a couple of ideas we’ve considered. What’s the best way to do a faux finish of the interior? It doesn’t need to be heat tolerant considering we’re using electric. Any other thoughts, ideas, advice is appreciated.
