Clumping bamboo question?

I've recently ordered some clumping golden godess bamboo for my backyard to cover my koi ponds equipment area. I have not planted it yet ot should arrive this week sometime so I have a little prep time if I need it. I can read articles all day but prefer some experience from people. What's my cons on this, my backyard is more a courtyard. Space in between garage/shop and the house. So there is not much spread room for it. I chose clumping for this reason. What's range they typically clump too. Circumference wise, width wise. Trying to decide if I need to build a in ground barrier or pot or container them for a few years first. I want them to get full but contained. I've witnessed the headache bamboo can cause in a backyard before, it was probably a runner species but it made digging these people's swimming pool hole so much harder. Let me know your knowledge and suggestions. Thanks so much.
