Curb Appeal A-Frame Lake House
Comments (5)I'd vote for changing to sliding glass doors rather than the more traditional door and window there now. You're never going to get the traditional look with this house anyway, so might as well go all the way with modern. Plus, I'd think you'd really enjoy the better view of the water. I'd also probably keep both decks, though I think a more modern design would look better than the present "rustic" look. Either metal, or perhaps painted wood. I'd also double check code on that upper deck - looks dangerous with those wide gaps that a child could fall through. As far as amount of deck - don't build more than you'll use. Wraparound decks that take up more square footage than the house itself I think look a little ridiculous. Just figure what size you need to fully enjoy it and leave it at that. Looks like a fun getaway place - wish I could see the lake!...See MoreTall cottage exterior wall needs curb appeal
Comments (20)Since we’re not changing windows my niece suggested large trim work around the windows which I think would help. I really appreciate all the suggestions. I’ve never posted to this site before and wasn’t expecting to get an answer. Thanks for taking the time to reply....See Morelake house curb appeal
Comments (13)i did notice the guest parking pad off the driveway. If you’re thinking of adding to decking & patio or hardscape, why not include having walkways from the guest parking around to front of house? It could be made of pavers or stone to blend into the natural setting. Connect it also to the sidewalk going to laundry mudroom door. I think this path or walkway would connect the back & entry to property with the front of the house & give direction from parking to entry(ies) At the road / driveway entry, carve out a generous planting area on left side of drive - opposite side of parking pad for balance. Plant evergreens with space for annuals if you like & include some hard scape elements like large landscape boulders or a big iron sculpture appropriate for your area. Maybe include your house address numbers if they aren’t obvious somewhere. That side of drive could also be lined with plantings to define & follow drive to house. Depends on what amount of maintenance you want. It looks shaded by the big trees so plan that into your plant choices. If it’s shady, plants with variegated leaf colors show up well. I cannot make planting suggestions as TX has planting zones 6 - 10 - a large state you know 😉! We hear you do have freezes but those occurrences aren’t ones that ypu can plan landscape around....See MoreLake house curb appeal help!
Comments (4)Your property's setting reminds me of a lakefront vacation property I once managed. You bemoan the lack of greenery, but your plan doesn't take into the account how much greenery would help here. If the chain link fence is yours, I would remove it and replace with one that repeats the look of the stair rail on the far left of the house. This is made of goat wire and would look good for a deck and replacement of the railing at the porch. I would put a deck there that levels out the slope to allow for cooking out. If there were any way to remove some of the asphalt, I would do so. You could do tar and chip to get more of a pea gravel look that wouldn't track into your home. Removing a lot of the mixed hard surfaces would allow you to bring in some planting areas to soften everything....See MoreSeabornman
