Plant now or hold until fall?
Comments (1)No, PS isn't good for a lamp post because it gets so big. You are looking at a huge vigorous vine in three years. Huge. I don't grow this one but I think it gets 10-15' tall and almost as wide. It is a monster. I plant now because here, they are better off in the ground than in a pot over summer but I do hard prune when I plant....See MoreAny objections? Speak now or forever hold your peace.
Comments (27)I think there are some remarkably talented gardeners/photographers who post in this forum, but I personally would not want to see it turn into a competitive-voting situation as to who's picture(s) would be included in a rotation, and who's would not. I see the potential for hurt feelings. Part of my job responsibilities include being the "Web-Mistress" for my department's link, on our corporate website. Before I can post material it needs to be signed off on, and often involves a review by an attorney in our Legal Dept. It's not as simple as someone just coming up to me and saying put this on the website. I don't know if I Village wants to involve themselves in something like this, either. As far as what represents a cottage garden, I think opinions would vary on this, too. For example, I think Friend's photo is a very sweet portrait of her beautiful son enjoying a warm, summer day. She has captured a special, tender moment in son's life! The focus (and rightly so, I think) is on her child rather than her garden. I view the garden as a frame surrounding her son, rather than a photo of a cottage garden, per se. I think the current picture has an old-world cottage charm to it that, to me, has a cozy, cottage-y feel to it. Marilyn...See MoreApt reno done--must clean now. How to clean marble, wood...
Comments (1)POLISHED MARBLE FLOORS: I read vinegar is bad bad bad. What to use? Water is fine, a bit of soap if there is a spill or spot. Do not use chemicals or abrasive cleaning materials. EXCESS GROUT: It's all over my subway tile. How do I get rid of this? The contractor should be responsible for the tile installer, they should take care of it, not you. WOOD FLOORS: I've never had wood.... thoughts? As long as they are sealed, a dry duster should do the trick, a little water on a rag for really dirty spots. STAINLESS: I put baby oil on the outside of my stove and it worked like a dream. Can I put this on the part where the burners are. That seems unsafe somehow with fire, but maybe I am wrong... is it OK? I think you will be VERY sorry you did this, the oil will just coagulate and attract dust and turn to a gunky mess. Baby oil shouldn't be used as a cleaning agent. There are cleaners made for stainless appliances, use them instead. CHROME FIXTURES: Is baby oil ok for these too? No. Rubbing alcohol works very well. TUB/BATHROOM SINK: I used to use soft scrub -- still OK? Yes....See MoreSpeak now or forever hold your peace!
Comments (25)Yay! I was debating whether to mention it or not since it would be under your seating area, but figured it couldn't hurt to let you know about that as a possibility. One other thing. We have a cabinet w/ pull-outs to the right of our range. Our KD designed it that way, probably more for symmetry than anything else (there's a narrower cab on the left side of the range; narrower, yes, but a cabinet w/ a door just the same). We did inquire about going w/ drawers instead (after we'd joined GW!), and he said we could do that if we wanted to. We opted to stick with the cab w/ pull-outs--gave us the flexibility to adjust the pull-outs up or down if we needed to. We also thought it would provide better accessiblity to the handles of smaller pots and all of our pans (all the stockpots are stored in a nice deep drawer in our island). Now, I do gripe a bit about the door front bumping against the built-in fridge side panel next to it, but, it is easier to access my fry-pans/skillets/saute pans with the lower height of the pull-out vs a drawer front. I have my pans stacked on top of each other, and usually slide whichever one I need out by its handle, so the clearance afforded me by the pull-outs come in handy. It's all about trade-offs. I still grimace when I open the door with a bit of force and it bumps against the fridge side panel, but I remember the trade-off I chose and why I chose it, and I'm fine . :-)...See Morecpartist
