I know this is a response to an old thread, but in case anyone else just happens to come across this thread: I don't want to spend money on a gym, where I have to exercise with a bunch of other people around. Not happening. So, I do the following (and has worked for me): * Take 10 minute walks whenever possible -- break time, lunch time, after work -- if the weather is inclement, go to the Mall, CostCo (just don't grab a cart) or Sam's Club. * Do you have stairs in your house? Run up and down the stairs a lot. It helps if you can make an errand, like taking things up and bringing things back down. * Find workouts online, on TV, or buy some DVD's. My favorite on TV is Classical Stretch (PBS) because it's elegant, and you do strengthening and conditioning as well as low-impact aerobics. I'm a school teacher, so one of my other favorite workouts online are with Fresh Start Fitness and Zumba Kids, both done with my students (we all get exercise and have fun doing it). * Every area of the country has trails somewhere. On weekends, find your local trails and hike them, now that the weather is turning nice almost everywhere. * My husband and I took out a membership to our local zoological society. It helps that we live near enough to the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Safari Park (formerly Wild Animal Park). Both parks are huge. We walk. And walk. Uphill. Downhill. Then Uphill some more. Last Saturday, we walked 4 miles at the Safari Park. Oh, and we got to see some amazing animals, too. Depending on where you live, you may have a huge zoo or animal park nearby where you will get some walking in. Donna

Wantoretire ~ Your exercise is different than mine at this time of year. Just don't do too much, if you know what I mean. How heavy is a snowblower? Yesterday it was pretty dang warm down here and I was sweating while I worked outside, up and down a ladder with my hand clippers trimming the inside of our front hedgerow. I started getting tired and 'tripping over a blade of grass' as DH laughingly said yesterday. That was almost the truth. I finished up what I was doing and came inside. I was hungry too and no wonder it was almost noon. I had been at it since 8. I need to mow, and there is more trimming around the property to do, but that will be another day. Down here it's never ending, a 365 day a year possibility of working in gardens. This morning it is COLD here, so I was racing around before leaving for work, covering a couple of garden areas because it is supposed to go down into the 30's tonight and feel like it's in the 20's. I did bring orchids and some other things indoors, some which are in the shower. : -) Gardening is really great exercise and even though it does wear me out at times I love it. The rewards are great! People might be interested in gyms, as part of new year's resolutions ;) For my part, I would like the gym to have a view of the garden as shown on your OP. I was considering a combo of (1) an ADU/shed or converted shipping container and (2) placing it under the deck. Any photos of similar solutions would be welcome.

Unfortunately the office in the bedroom is for my husband as he is currently working from home indefinitely and needs the privacy for phone calls and Zoom/Skype meetings. I was planning to have my desk somewhere in the main part of the house as I work at home occasionally, I still go in the office. Our house is 3 Bedrooms, Kitchen, small Casual Family Room in front of kitchen, and large open room (formal dining/living room) in the front entrance that is open concept. unfortunately there are no nooks, basement, or attics in the house which is why our space is limited. Each of the 3 bedrooms has a purpose: Master Bedroom that has limited space, Husbands office and he needs the privacy for phone calls, and the current guest room which will be utilized as a nursery/kids room in near future. The garage has both our cars already and we live in the desert where it gets over 100 degrees. So a gym in the garage is not an option.
