Frameless glass enclosure for steam shower?
Comments (29)You have valid concerns and we take extra measures to acommodate steam vapor escape by treating the ceiling and/or adjoining painted surfaces outside the shower with usually an oil based primer and sometimes topcoat of paint . Steam rooms require a few things to be just right and if so you shouldnt have excessive release of vapor. Starting with the proper sized generator for the "adjusted cubic ft" A proper glass install with the acceptable tolerances ( we use sweep and bulb gaskets to compensate for minor inaccuracies and zip our steam showers up and then utilize the transom.) A transom smartly placed in relation to the Fan that also needs to be the proper CFM for the room and other hvac concerns,. Our fans are always on a timer, and preferably jumped on the same circuit as the showers interior light. You want the fan on from the start of the shower and remaining on for 30 +/- mins after you get out. I always suggest opening the transom and swinging the shower door IN to the shower when done. On this steamer ceiling we used the existing bathroom fan and planned ahead and had the painter coat our cedar install with sikens marine grade topcoat. Hope that helps a bit in your effort to rectify your concerns.-best...See MoreShower glass panel installation ?
Comments (4)This is timely for me. My frameless shower glass was just installed today. I have two concerns. First, I'd been told (and the proposal specifies) that there would be u-channels along the bottom of the two fixed panels, and on the vertical part of the "notched" panel that goes around the tub deck. (The shower glass has one 36" wide x 60" high fixed panel along the marble tub deck, and another narrow fixed panel at 90 degrees to it; the narrow one meets the door, which is attached to the opposite wall with clips.) The large panel is held into the wall with two clips. I thought there would be u-channels along the bottom of both fixed panels, but the installer used only silicone. I am worried about safety. My other concern is that they cut into the marble tub deck! I'd been under the impression that the glass panel would be "notched" to go around the tub deck. I have emails in which this was discussed. The shower guy now says that this would not have been safe, and that cutting into the tub deck is the standard way of doing things. Any thoughts on this?...See MoreUneven glass tile - is this acceptable?
Comments (21)Just wanted to give a follow up. The contractor was a professional company and had previously done another bathroom of ours. The issue with them this time, as it turned out, was the glass tile (the last one was stone) . After I mentioned the comments from this site, he agreed that the job wasn't done well, and he admitted he had rushed to finish it, in order to start another job. It seemed that with glass, he had to go slower because by rushing, parts sagged which caused issues. He has been able to remove pieces of the glass tile (without breaking other pieces) and properly set it - there are a lot of pieces which needed replacing. He plans on finishing it today. The second issue turned out to be too much water in the grout. So he is going to redo the grout. I feel we have come to a good understanding. I like that he admitted his mistakes and is wants to make it right....See MoreAcceptable to use a spacer for shower door hinge??
Comments (8)If its my Job, my client id not accept that. my glass guys would promptly remove and do what it takes to get it right. but thats me and my glass team. It very well may be the walls so out of plumb and tiler didnt correct it. or the glass company didnt measure/verify and compensate with the glass fabrication. Or perhaps they used a out of the box glass kit to shave costs...? This is usually where the fingerpointing and blame game kicks in....See MoreSylva Leduc
