We purchased a Samsung French door refrigerator - Model RF24FSEDBSR/AA - in November 2014 (now about 2.75 years old), and have had, along with evidently countless others, problems with the ice maker, which quit working just after the one year warranty period was over ... soft ice cubes, water and crushed ice build-up in the chute, dripping water, and massive ice build-up in the back of the unit that evidently blocked the fan and eventually burned out the motor. The first appliance repair company called would not service a Samsung refrigerator (wonder why); the second came out three times ... went through all of the Samsung "service bulletins" in regard to this issue and eventually said they would not continue trying to fix it and to call Samsung (we paid for one service call with this company, the other two were gratis). Samsung "Support" set up an appointment with one of their locally contracted appliance repair companies - we paid for the service call and their assessment was that we needed a new fan/motor. On the next service call he brought and installed the new part. We paid for the part, something like $140. Shortly after the "repair", the unit again began to fail and we called again (after cleaning out the ice build-up several times). The part was guaranteed for three months, but we did not realize this and called again just after the three month period. The solution - again - to replace the fan/motor in the ice maker. We paid again for the part, and the company kindly did not charge us this time for the service call. Fast forward two months, and the ice maker unit is failing AGAIN - we've melted out the ice build-up two or three times in the last six or seven weeks. Over the last few days, a new issue - the "Twin Cooling" unit in the back of the refrigerator has failed - ice build up in the "Twin Cooling" unit, the fan died, and the refrigerator now keeps a temperature of around 50 degrees. The drawer and the freezer are still maintaining a safe temperature, so we are using those alone while we search for another refrigerator; given that we've paid upwards of $500 for repairs that did not work we are not willing to sink more money into repairs. I've read that they have since improved the ice maker, but have made no move to my knowledge to recall or replace defective models or parts. Needless to say, we are not seeking to replace this refrigerator, or any other appliance, with a Samsung model.

jkom51, another Installer from PC Richards & Sons, came back and installed the moisture strip and managed to move the dishwasher further in so the controls are not showing and only about 6/16th is showing on the top which at least now it does not look like the dishwasher is open. They left two plastic side pieces on my counter and a client who is a friend, asked me what they were. I started to read and it appears that these need to be installed also. I must call PC Richards on Monday. Shame on PC Richards for not making sure their installers read about new dishwasher models so they can install them right the first time. But I am happy with the dishwasher so far and tried it out twice. I love how there is so much room and the layout is nice. I can hear the water entering the dishwasher and I know it is on but it is very quiet compared to my last dishwasher so I am happy about that. jkom51, it sounds like your installers were good and knowledgeable about new products and I would have gladly paid $5 extra for the install IF they did everything right the first time. I am still surprised that I had to pay CASH to the installer for the reducer which to me sounds like it was a planned way for me to pay a tip and make the installation cost more than I had negotiated for.

I have been using an 18" Danby portable for about four years and have had no issues with it yet, other then it does not clean avocado from anything, everything else works fine. I like the fact that it takes salt and that it has a filter and that when it runs out of salt or dryer liquid it continues to work with just the light showing to remind you that you have an issue. It is much quieter than the 24 inch 15 year old DW it replaced. Like all of the new dishwashers it has a longer cycle time, so I tend to run it last thing at night as it will hog your kitchen if you try to run it during the day. The hoses are relatively inexpensive plastic and while they feel cheap they have performed without issue. The manual for this model did not explain how to use the salt function and you really need it if you are in a hard water area. In the big picture you unscrew the reservoir and dump in about four pounds of salt. Salt can be bought at home depot- a 40 pound bag is less than $6.00 currently. You do have to find storage somewhere in your house or garage for the other 36 pounds I still haven't finished the first bag. I contacted Danby directly about how to use the salt and they were very responsive. Who knows maybe they have even corrected their manual by now to include the missing pages explaining where to insert the salt.....it does not have an internal garbage disposal so you do have to rinse the bigger chunks off the plates. I do not wash the plates and then put them in the dishwasher. I just clear the big chunks. The DW is relatively easy to move around and its looks have held up very well. I bought it used on craigslist for $100. The prior owners had children and had not bothered to clean the filter. The first time I ran it a lot of water accumulated in the bottom of the cabinet. I had to scoop it out, poke around to clear the block and then clean the filter. I clean the filter every couple of months and it takes less than two minutes to do-you remove the filter very easily it just unscrews, you then run it underwater scrape off anything visible and then screw it back in. I would recommend this dishwasher.

So I called Whirlpool. The WP rep, Chris, stated that the 84 degrees I experienced for "hot" is "not that far off" from the target temp, which is 90-100 degrees. He said, "Today's detergents dissolve better in cold water." I did not argue this statement, but it's NOT true. Nothing dissolves "better" in colder water. This is a principle of physics that's not going to change. I pointed out that the temperature I got when selecting "hot" in this machine with "6TH SENSE technology" was not by any stretch of the imagination even warm. He suggested that if I want hotter water, I should turn up my hot water heater. Well, THAT suggestion made me mad! I said, "Do you realize how WASTEFUL of energy it would be to turn up the hot water heater, especially my tank heater, and have unnecessarily hot water running in every tap in my house, just because your washer is designed to mix cold water with the hot?!?" He also said that a technician could come check the machine, but if it is working "as designed," I would be charged for a service call. All along I have sympathized with asolo's annoyance, but at this point I am even more annoyed than he is. I was so annoyed I forgot to ask what the target temp is for "warm." I mean, the cold water in my tap right now is 77 degrees! The description of ATC "6TH SENSE" gave me the impression that it works in a much more sophisticated way than it really does. It sounded to me like the machine senses the temperature and adjusts the hot and cold inflow. But it seems like it simply draws from each tap in some proportion, which has changed recently to favor more cold. So I did some more experimenting. I turned off the cold intake to the washer. I then ran the hot tap in my laundry sink till it was hot. I had to run OVER 2 GALLONS before it ran hot. I immediately started a load choosing "hot" as the temp. The wash cycle ran just fine. Toward the end of the wash cycle, however, the machine tried to draw water from the cold, and when it couldn't get flow, stopped and flashed "F 20" error code. I turned the cold back on, but had to cancel the load to get out of that state. It took a few minutes longer than usual to cancel the load. So bottom line, "6TH SENSE" or no, I get MUCH HOTTER in-the-tub temps if I run the hot tap first, and close the cold intake during the fill for the wash cycle. After the fill, I reopen the cold intake so that it will be set to rinse. The fill takes only a couple minutes, so this isn't too bad. (Disclaimer: This is how my CURRENT model of the Whirlpool Duet 9400 functions; there's no guarantee that other makes, models, or vintages will function the same way.) I would not be surprised if a few years from now, the govt requires the manufacturers to program the machine not to work if it can't draw from the cold intake. All of this experimenting has reconfirmed something I had learned in the past with my old top-loader: Hot water cleans much better than cold, with NO additional wear or damage to most fabrics.
