monablair - we would have to turn the table in order to open it up. On the other end we plan to have our stools under the penisula and plan to use it as you mentioned a place to mingle while I'm in the kitchen. Bump...

You're actually losing workable space in your new design, especially by putting the sink in the island. That odd bump out in the island is just asking people to run into it too. I'm assuming those narrow cabinets on the side of the fridge are pantries. -Move the fridge over to one side and put a full sized cabinet panty on the other side. Don't complicate it and give yourself less space by trying to center it. (Also make sure it's counter depth or it will dominate the design and not in a good way) -Make the island a standard rectangle. -Relocate the microwave so it's not above the stove top, instead put in a vent hood. It will make the design look more custom and less builder grade. -You need to extend the kitchen further into the sunroom to actually gain more usable space. Right now you don't have a lot of countertop space for prepping. Either extend the island, or extend the cabinets (and remove that little bit of wall) where the coffee bar is.

Blocking off that hallway to extend for full bath would ruin the openness of my home and the only place to expand is beyond where the toilet is right now. Anyway...I will Never buy another home. This is my forever home as a single, just-retired woman My life-blood centers around home improvement, no better neighborhood in my tough city.. ...and I have a seasoned pro who wants to do my projects at no-cost labor.
