Retrofitting off-sized recessed lighting with LEDs-Help?
Comments (8)Options 1. Re-use the existing cans. The eyeball trim is typically a separate replaceable piece. From your earlier descriptions, it appears that the light fixtures use A19 type bulbs with the screw in base (Edison). It might be possible to get trim pieces + bulb. That way, you save on the labor required to remove and re-install cans. 2. Replace the can. If you have access to the upper side, removing the can should be relatively easy (though not necessarily pleasant). Otherwise, a large portion of the can should be removable from below. In this case, enlarging the hole is less work than attempting to shrink the hole. Assuming that you are not subject to energy efficiency laws such as Title 24, standard edison base retrofit cans are usable. You may want to use the ECO-575....See MoreLED Recessed Lighting Help -Kitchen Remodel- downlight brand/retrofit?
Comments (3)Are you in California? That would be the only place you "need" an "LED" housing that is marked as "title 24 compliant". There are several different ways to go otherwise. An LED housing may only be different from a standard housing in that there is no screw shell on the end of the wires to hold a lightbulb. There are also adaptors for that in most LED light kits. A retrofit usually means that the LED screws in like a lightbulb. Another difference is that on some strictly LED systems, the transformer is on/outside the housing instead of in the lightbulb which lowers the heat level, presumably prolonging the life of the LED..... The best way to learn about them is to read up on all the different types here. http://www.cooperindustries.com/content/public/en/lighting/brands/halo/recessed/downlighting/_6_inch.html...See MoreLED retrofit kits for halogen recessed lights?
Comments (1)LED MR16 2 pin bulbs are listed on some sites. I just don't consider them there yet. Here, but only 580 lumens. I haven't tried them....See MoreRecessed Can Size for 7.5 foot ceilings and LED Retrofit trim
Comments (1)We used 4" recessed in all of our 8' ceilings and are happy with it. I would also add that to the degree you get worse diffusion with a 4" light, it really doesn't matter that much as this is a hallway and you aren't spending time there - just passing through....See MoreDavidR
