Touch up Lacquer Painted Cabinets?
Comments (0)My husband and I are selling our house and don't want to either replace the cabinets or undertake the expense/labor of having them completely repainted. They are wood cabinets with an off white lacquer finish but the lacquer is chipped in many places --- not huge chips but mainly around the edges of the cabinets. Is there any type of brush-on lacquer that I could use to touch up the cabinets? Thanks for any advice you can give me!...See MoreCabinet maker's paint (lacquer) job on custom kitchen cabinets???
Comments (3)Your requests are not unreasonable. In my mind, industry standard is that you should get a full coat of paint (no missed spots and complete coverage with a good film build) and the surfaces should be smooth. You are right about the environment in which the cabinets were sprayed. Some guys go to great lengths to create a dust free area in which to spray and others are cabinet makers first, painters second. With lacquer because it dries so fast, you really have to spray an item and move it out of the area. If overspray hits a door that is already dry, then that door will be rough....See MoreKitchen cabinets - paint chipping

This incident could show potential customers why they should buy your product instead of one from another of the multitude of cabinet companies in the marketplace. Why do you have a customer service team? Should it be called dealer services instead? Although your company didn't directly create this problem, it is still your name being dragged through the mud. You are indirectly responsible as the source of the product and may wish to consider your company's image as you reply to dissatisfied customers. It's not the installing dealer's name stamped on the inside of the cabinets, it is yours....See MoreBest type of paint for kitchen cabinets: acrylic, oil, or lacquer?
Comments (4)Breakthrough and Waterborne Proclassic are good choices. Another option is BM Advance. I would not use the oil option. Yes, it will yellow. Actually, Waterborne Alkyds I believe will also yellow slightly. If you want minimal yellowing, use a pigmented lacquer or conversion varnish (CV.) Lacquer has become a generic term. Ask what type of lacquer they want to use. Traditional nitrocellulose lacquer is not as durable for kitchen cabinets. Some newer waterborne "lacquers" pass KCMA testing standards. Make sure if you use lacquer that it passes KCMA. I have a post somewhere here of some cabinets I did were I used BM Advance in "Dover White" and then topcoated with WB lacquer. From a durability standpoint, CV is the most durable. CV is probably what your cabinets were finished with. I hope this helps....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
