What brick would YOU chose?
Comments (13)Maggie, you just don't know how much I appreciate your help!! You have made this decision process sooooo much easier for me. If you're anywhere in the middle Tennessee area I'll take you out for a nice dinner! And I totally agree- you confirmed what I suspect in that too much detail is lost with the dark brick. I sent your first mock up to my brick guy and he sent me a picture of this job he recently did. This was using the darker brick (that I showed in my first post of this thread) but doing what he called "slurring" the mortar over it. I'm kind of digging the look. What do you think? (just to clarify, our house will be brick only and no stone)...See MoreWould you chose to pay off this mortgage?
Comments (25)Greetings rufus doofus, There are two rats that eat your cheese. There's an agency, the partner in many of your financial affairs, that asks you a question each year, and makes a statement. The question from the income tax people: "How much did you make, last year"? The statement: "We want part of it". You can keep only that part of your income that remains after you've paid that income tax to your financial partner, the income tax people. I wasn't sure from your message whether the interest on your mortgage is deductible, or not. If not, another reason not to pay off most or all of the amount owing. The other rat that eats your cheese? When you put money into a CD, you have that guarantee that you referred to - that the guys using your money will pay back every dollar that they got from you, in addition to the rent on the money. There's another guarantee that they never mention - they won't pay one dollar more than you gave them, either. BUT - the value of each one of those dollars shrank, every year since the early 30s. When you put your money into a bank account, a money market fund, a bond or a CD ... you're not keeping the full after-tax amount of interest that the borrowing agency's paying you. You must put part of the earnings with the amount invested, in order to maintain purchasing power of those dollars. Your actual earnings are what's left. And, don't forget ... the rats eat first. Good wishes for making increasingly wise use of your income and assets. ole joyful...See MoreWhat was the first thing you chose for your kitchen?
Comments (56)I just posted my almost done kitchen recently. The cabinets are a similar to robin's egg blue and the backsplash and paint will be white. Marble counters with white vintage sink. I realize that this type of kitchen isn't for everyone, but I definitely did pick something that enhances my mood everytime I spend time in it. The way I figured out it would make me happy was to go through SO many magazines and books. For a year. It was easier for me b/c I knew I wanted the style to match the house......then whenever I saw a kitchen with painted cabinets I thought it was so beautiful, but I could never do that. Literally, when I saw these pictures my heart would leap in a happy way. For a while I thought I was going to do an all white kitchen that would be like a canvas and I'd add accent colors that would make me happy. I was settled on that b/c it was rational. All the while I was still looking through magazines and books, trying to focus on white kitchens, but whenever I saw a colored kitchen I'd almost stop breathing. All of a sudden I took the leap and committed to permanent color and I couldn't be more happy that I did. Comments (38)I live in Georgia. There is no way she can go after them. It's not possible. They don't have any money and live from job to job and are feeding their families and if you took money from them or got a judgment they could end up in prison if not able to pay and unable to provide for their family. It would not be satisfying. In the end it really just can't be done by us who feel sorry for them and understand these economic times. They usually work for less than a big company. They are not bad people just unfortunate people. There have been times when I have had to adjust my thinking to it being more or less a "donation" not that I can afford it but I can certainly afford it more than they can and have had in the past a better life. When you know the people and have used them before and had no problems with them it's not easy to haul them into court. I am happy that OP is not going that route even though she has been terribly wronged and certainly justified. Sometimes we get our reward in other ways. It's part of life and I am so very sorry this happened and hope that it will come out with some of the remedies presented. If not, I so feel your pain having had similar things happen to me on several occasions. It's no fun being the brunt of carelessness but sometimes the protracted route of going after people just make our stress level even worse and will end up the same anyway with you resolving it yourself. Here's to hoping it will all work out and that the paint will come out or be able to be covered up. I am sick about this for you....See More
