36' range plus wall oven vs. 48' range with dual ovens?
Comments (4)We had the 36 foot (HAH) AG Wolf in our last house. We loved the unit and space up top but did often run out of burner space. The 36 inch oven was nice and held a lot which was great as long as we were cooking things at the same temp which we rarely ever did. Next, that oven took forever to preheat... 40-45 minutes to 400. Lastly, we think b/c of its huge capacity, it cooked really hot. I think the burners had to run a lot to keep it at temp which over cooked bottoms of breads etc. Great for roasts and some other things but not for breads, cookies, pastries etc. In the end though, we were VERY pleased with the Wolf. We adapted to the hot temps by using additional pans for heat shields and adjusting the temps. In our current house, we went with a 60 inch AG Blue Star range. It has 2 30 inch ovens, 8 burners and a grill. We also put in a Wolf 30 inch wall oven. The preheat on all 3 ovens to 400 is about 15-20 minutes. The first cookies and corn bread we did in the gas ovens. They were better than in the 36" Wolf but still cooked pretty hard. Next time I did corn bread, I thought, Oh yeah, I've got the wall oven and used it... a world of difference. Since then we have done biscuits and other items and they come out perfectly. We still find the gas is great for roasts, casseroles, reheating etc. We may have a bit of over kill, but due to advice from this forum, we specifically diversified to both gas and electric and have been very pleased. So, my recommendation? The 48 inch AG range AND an electric wall oven. Oh yeah, the grill on the BS is killer. I got talked into it as a last minute decision and thought I would use it occasionally. We have used it a fair amount so fay and it does a killer job on veggies and chicken. We have elected to limit the grill to those items only. Beef and fish are too messy and when we grill those, its always outside (so far). I have found a griddle plate that fits nicely over the grill to convert it to a griddle when needed....See MoreGE profile double oven gas range vs. GE cafe double oven range
Comments (5)I went with the Profile double-oven gas: here are my reasons. I like the smaller-size top oven for daily use, and the lower oven will only be used on occasion, so I'm ok with its location. (There's no room for a wall oven in my tiny kitchen -- and I have no plans to tear out cabinets and rearrange.) I'm a good cook, and I honed my skills on low-end domestic ranges because that's what was available: I don't need a commercial range to cook what I like, and I'm too busy with other aspects of my life to change my cooking style now. I also prefer not to deal with "pro" level BTUS and the ventilation complications they might add. I also am not willing to give up self-cleaning ovens -- which puts many pro-style ranges out of contention. I liked the slide-in setup and the angled control-knob location on the Profile, so that, and the price advantage, led me to choose it over the Cafe. Re: price, I bought mine from a local dealer, and I got the price down a bit by asking them to meet the ajmadison.com price. They didn't quite get there, but I was willing to pay a little extra for local sales/delivery/service reliability. Everyone's situation is a little different, but I found that the Profile slide-in fits best with my kitchen and the way I use it....See MoreThoughts on Verona 36' Double Oven Gas Range
Comments (29)We have had the Verona 36 inch double oven with 5 gas burners for a few years now. I really like the option of having 2 ovens and while I don't always use both, it is really handy when you need it. I have not had issues with food not fitting in the smaller sized oven (or maybe I am used to compensating for it). Pros are that I like the way it looks and its compact design. I like the different options to use regular bake, convection, etc. Some cons: I had to buy new pans that will fit into the smaller ovens (not a big deal but just something to think about). By far the most annoying thing with the ovens is their preheat time. I used to have a GE that probably took 5-10 minutes? This thing takes about 20 minutes to preheat. Its very very annoying and I find I have to plan around this preheat time all the time. Same with broiling. You may spend 20 minutes to get the broil up to temp and only 5 minutes broiling. If it had to do it all over again I might actually go for the GE just to get over this preheat issue....See MoreYour thoughts....New range or cooktop & wall oven(s)?
Comments (21)We currently have a 30" cooktop plus double ovens and a separate countertop microwave. We are also at the beginning of our remodel (finalizing layout) and about to change it completely. IF I HAD THE ROOM, I would absolutely, keep a cooktop and separate double ovens. However, I am now planning for a 30" range, plus a 30" combo micro/oven. Here are some details why I love what I have today: 1. The height of a double oven stack is wonderful. I am never bending down very far even for the lower oven. The height of the top oven isn't too high for me either (I am 5'5"). 2. I like that I don't have heat coming out of the oven while I am standing over the cooktop with other food. I am very nervous about this in the new setup; however, I am taking a chance given our space constraints and other feedback I have received. Here is why I am willing to change: 1. There are many options in the 30" range category that more than cover my needs both from a cooktop and oven capability perspective. 2. While I use my 2nd oven 2-3x per month, that isn't enough to justify giving up the space for that and a microwave. Therefore, I am combining the oven and microwave to save space all around while at the same time, having enough capacity for the cooking needs in our home. A few final thoughts: - Are you sure you want to give up your pantry space? Even though it may be too deep / things get lost, there are many rev-a-shelf or other brand accessories that can help with this problem. I currently struggle with going into our finished basement storage to get cooking appliances instead of having them at arms reach in the kitchen. - Could you retrofit your pantry cabinet to house a countertop microwave incl electrical outlet. This may not be a huge deal and you may enjoy having it hidden. :)...See Moredelray33483
