Design dilemma: range placement, kitchen refresh?
Comments (25)If it were my kitchen: 1. Remove cabinets & moulding to right of window 2. Add them under cabinets near entry on left for storage, make a drawer underneath. 3. Fill desk with wine fridge, extend counter to make landing space for double ovens. 4. Eliminate seating, replace island counter top with narrower counter in a nicer material. Paint the island some color you like. Don't bother with changing the shape & patching the nice floor. 5. Replace cooktop, add modern telescoping down draft to back of cooktop (I know, I know, but it'll prevent some grease splatters from landing on the floor). 6. Add mini fridge or fridge drawers in the island angle. Convenient location for a mini fridge. 7. Expand That Window! Especially if there's a view of the lake! I could live with a less than ideal layout for all the light & view from a large window. I like your cabinets too -- they have a quaint charm. Plus they look to be of good quality, and quality doesn't go out of style. I really like the look of stainless with golden oak. If you could splurge for a new stainless double oven, wine fridge, & mini fridge or fridge drawers, those things and the big window could refresh your kitchen very well. Please excuse my awful photoshopping skills. But this will give you a rough idea: Oh. Just saw the other set of pictures. So no view of lake, but you'd still have lots of light and a view of your lovely yard....See MoreKitchen refresh advice
Comments (17)I agree with @JAN MOYER. the light floors need to be paired with a lighter countertop. I also agree to go to the stone yard and “shop” around. Bring samples of flooring and paint ... Take pictures of what you like I also think removing the microwave and doing a hood vent will make a huge difference in the space. And if you want to take this to the next level I would add more cabinets up to the ceiling. But not necessary. I’d also change the hardware. But that’s at the end Also, backsplash should come last. At the very end. When the entire kitchen is complete. So don’t think about that yet. Great space!!! Lots of potential here. Sit down and find some inspiration pictures that you absolutely love. (They should have the light flooring in it to make it easier for you) And come up with a clear vision and have fun at it!!!! ❤️❤️...See MoreKitchen refresh help for first time homeowner :)
Comments (1)It would look really nice to have the same flooring through the whole space. And you're correct that gray is heading out, light wood tones coming in. Gray can still be nice if you like it, but you might go with a gray stone-look laminate, instead of a gray wood look. In terms of color scheme though, I think you're starting in the wrong place to ask "what goes with the wall paint?" Paint is the easiest, cheapest thing to change. Way, way easier than painting your cabinets. So think about what cabinet color you really want, and what furniture colors you will have in the adjoining living area. Then pick flooring. Then pick a wall color that ties it all together....See MoreBefore and after kitchen refresh.
Comments (3)I see now. You have two threads going on the same topic. The ”after” pics in the second thread show a definite refresh. But, still no vent hood over the gas range?...See Morecpny
