Gallup: Trump job approval rating matches all-time high

More good news, along with the stock market seemingly having found its bottom during this tumult and panic.

It really puts a fine point on exactly why the MSDNC media are railing against and censoring Trump's indefatigable and tenacious pressers, which takes his team's up-to-the-minute information directly to the American people.

" President Trump’s job approval rating has jumped by 5 points in the latest Gallup survey, matching the high point of his presidency, as a majority of voters say they have a positive view of how the president has handled the coronavirus pandemic.

The new poll finds Trump’s job approval rating at 49 percent, up from 44 percent in the same survey earlier this month. The 49 percent job approval rating is the high mark for Trump since he came into office. He first hit that mark in late January, shortly before he was acquitted by the Senate in his impeachment trial.

The president’s job approval rating has remained steady among Republicans (92 percent), but he’s gained 8 points among independents (43 percent) and 6 points among Democrats (13 percent).

It appears that Trump’s handling of the coronavirus response is behind the approval rating bump. Sixty percent of voters overall said they approve of the job Trump is doing to address the epidemic, including 94 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of independents and 27 percent of Democrats.

Trump has been criticized by a number of Democrats in Washington who say he was too slow to recognize the threat of the virus and that he downplayed the threat at critical moments early on. A shortage of test kits has been a major problem, although it appears testing in the U.S. is accelerating fast.

But the president’s daily press briefings, in which he has surrounded himself with health experts, appear to be cutting through to the public.

Gallup analyst Jeffrey M. Jones likened the jump in approval to those past presidents have received during times of crisis.

“Historically, presidential job approval has increased when the nation is under threat. Every president from Franklin Roosevelt through George W. Bush saw their approval rating surge at least 10 points after a significant national event of this kind. Bush's 35-point increase after 9/11 is the most notable rally effect on record,” Jones wrote.

“During these rallies, independents and supporters of the opposing party to the president typically show heightened support for the commander in chief.

Well, that would be bad timing. I take it you mean all those folks in denial about social distancing.

Again we see Repubs. citing an outlier (Repub.-leaning) poll that nearly always reports higher ratings for Republicans -- and ignoring the majority of the other polls that record lower ratings.

Here is a more balanced recent poll:

--------------------------------

"A Monmouth University poll released Monday reports that 50 percent of respondents believe Trump has done a “good job” dealing with the outbreak, while 45 percent say he has done a “bad job.”

. . . 46 percent of Americans now approve of the job Trump is doing as president — an increase from 44 percent in February. Trump’s overall on-the-job rating was also sharply divided along partly lines, with 91 percent of Republicans, 44 percent of independents and 11 percent of Democrats approving."

------------------------------

Note--50%, not 60% approval of Trump's dealing with the virus outbreak.

And Trump's overall job approval is 46%, not 49%.

Meanwhile the pandemic crisis does not have any face of the left fighting for them. Well, Cuomo, because he is in serious crisis. The only one in the dim limelight is Pelosi with stalling the bill to pass.

The people that fight for all of us are front line medical workers, scientists in the labs, and community leaders that have the guts to take extreme measures that will be hurting economy but saving lives.

And they do not care about left or right as opposed to "the right" people

Washington Governor Jay Inslee, California Governor Gavin Newsom, LA City Mayor Eric Garcetti to name a few.

There are others.

Pelosi is just the scapegoat. I want accountability for trillions of taxpayer dollars. We have seen too many handouts to corps, banks and SM with no strings. It’s about time we realize without workers to spend, this consumer country goes down. Socialism for the wealthy has to stop right here and now.

Well, then why don't you tell that to the Trump haters, "the left" people. Pfft!

No answer to Clinton's numbers huh?, no surprise there. Must be Super Amazing then. Trump is a loser in comparison, and so is the nation.

47% right now. He better be careful or he’ll lose the prestige of being the only president never to break 50.

Pretty telling that in a time of national crisis, a common enemy, he still can’t pull half the country in.

I have a different take on this news FOAS (no surprise:). Here is the comment I came to post:

Today, Trump reached 47% as an average approval on RCP. A first for him and he's never been this high, including at the very beginning of his term when his numbers were at their highest for his very first week or two.

Many months ago when Trump was in the 42% range (which was good for him as he had been in the high 30s when he was elected and at some points when in office too), Karl Rove said he thought Trump would be really tough to beat if he could ever get his average approval to 45. We'll see if Trump can stay above 45 and, if so, we'll see (in November) if Rove was right.

Rove is great at predicting!

That exchange (recounted in the new afterword to the paperback edition of "Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal and the Selling of the Iraq War," the book I co-wrote with David Corn, tells much about the brook-no-dissent ethos that Rove brought to the Bush White House. It also puts in some context Rove's cheery comments this weekend to friendly journalist Paul Gigot, the editorial page director of the Wall Street Journal, as he announced his surprise resignation from the White House (and his plans to write a book on the Bush presidency). "Iraq will be in a better place," as the surge continues, he said. As for President Bush's political standing, "he will move back up in the polls."

I very much hope and want Trump to win this next election - every bit as passionately as some of you don't want him to lose. But beyond that, I don't care one bit if his approval numbers are 20, 40, or 60.

But should Trump win, I will enjoy all the HT cheering about his under 50 approval ratings and I'll calmly smile and enjoy the comments.

He’ll win not because he’s good but because Democrats couldn’t scrounge up a good opponent.

If he does indeed win, I'll calmly smile at that point of view/attitude too. If Dems spend 4 years saying Trump is only president because they blew their selection/primary process and Trump's approval numbers are at 30% - that's just fine with me.
