Help with Craftsman Bungalow—-dark wood
Comments (27)Thank you so much Lizbeth-Gardener! Removing the film on the windows was the very first thing we did after we closed on the house. That really helped open the room up to the outdoors. I love seeing all the greenery, and you can appreciate the old wavy glass so much better with the film gone. The lighting has been a challenge and a real work in progress. We put in four floor lamps; one in each corner of the room, as well as a couple counter lamps on the built ins in the dining area (glass mission/craftsman style). Now that we’ve done all the work on the ceiling and pulled down the bad facade that was on the main ceiling beam (hiding wiring) and exposed back to the the original beam we are finally able to better replace the lights there, as well as the ones mounted on either side of the fireplace. All are ordered and we’re waiting. I’ll post pictures once we finally have them and get them installed....See MoreAre valances suitable for Craftsman bungalows?
Comments (14)Yes, take it down! We had these monstrous 1960s valences with 3 layers of sheers, thermals and curtains - all on pulleys that ran all around our octagon bay-front LR into the adjacent DR. I agree, they were a mess to take out but did not damage the plaster (thank goodness!) and were oddly made of some really solid wood that made some nice shelves for the attic. :) Some day, if I ever refinish the windows in these very public rooms of the house, I'll be putting in wood blinds. For now, we have nice curtains in our DR, and kind of crummy ones in the octagon front. But the octagon is 7 windows and pretty complicated and the budget won....See MoreNeed help picking exterior paint for craftsman bungalow
Comments (28)I like the blue one celery just did. more of a grayer blue, or a greenish blue and yes, correct sized shutters. the ones you have are too skinny. (or remove them completely. ) Don't forget the accent colors. love this blue, but the adjoining warm wood really accents the look. Pink not your thing? choose a coral, or green this w/natural cedar looks beautiful. do the cedar shutters...See MorePlanning a new build Craftsman bungalow & looking for perfect neutral
Comments (0)We're planning our new Craftsman bungalow home & I'm looking for a medium beige color that will blend with accent colors (mostly the blues and greens) from the Sherwin Williams Rookwood Color Palette. I'm considering BM Grant Beige, BM Jute & BM Camouflage for the main lliving spaces (foyer, hall, Kitchen, Dining, Living). These areas get Eastern light, except for the hall/foyer is western (only transom and sidelight lights though). I want a warmer (but not gold) color with a green undertone. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! TIA! SW Rookwood Color Palette SW Rookwood Color Palette...See Morethreers
