Looking for Yellow Elder
Comments (1)I'm not sure I've guessed the right plant. Tecoma stans is sometimes called Yellow Alder; could that be what you're looking for? Yucca Do Nursery has a nice selected variety of Tecoma stans with a picture which might help you decide if it's what you want. When my dad was dying of cancer I got him an amaryllis and he really enjoyed watching that bud come up out of the bulb and stretch to become a flower. It might be late to find one, but flowers are very therapeutic I think. My deepest sympathy for you and your wife....See MoreShow me your decorative toss pillows - LR
Comments (22)Oh my, a $43 pillow is a little too expensive for me also. I've sewn a few, which were relatively easy. I also tried painting using a stencil on a plain ivory fabric, and using metallic colors, copper and pewter in a Damask pattern~very pretty(if I may say so myself!). I've also started with ready-made, and added embellishments~you can get very creative. Cliff and joann, your pillows are gorgeous~do you start with a ready-made? I have several tapestries and may have to give it a try. Would be a nice winer project....See MoreNeed help with the sofa color choice in my living room
Comments (9)walls should be based on the decoration in your room not the other way around. having said that your room looks creamy white so nothing clashes with that. colorful never makes things darker, darker things do. in addition, you do not try to match your ceiling, builtins floors etc. they are natural, back of the background. you can change them so the do not matter. if you were worried about what goes best with those you would have no colors. do you know which pillows you like? also probably beating a dead horse here, but have you thought of 2 couches? or one and a couple of chairs....See MoreNeed help brighten up my living room!
Comments (30)Like all that natural light from the windows. Like the chairs flanking the fireplace. Instead of making a lot of drastic changes all at once, begin with adding white miniblinds inside the frame of each window, leaving your curtains/drapes off for a while. Even if you rehang your sheers, put the red drape away for a time. I like plants, too. You might consider keeping the smaller of the two larger plants, setting it in your corner, and either selling the larger one or giving it away -- perhaps to a family member or friend or even donating one to a local nursing home for their community room. If either ivy like plant is real, it may need to be repotted as both containers seem full. If it isn't real, wrap in a plastic bag and store them away, at least for a while. Keep your options open. If you get rid of both of the palms, consider snake plants as a replacement. My tallest one is 4' tall over the dirt in the pot but it doesn't spread as wide as the plants you have. It does usually have new plants come up in the pot beside the original. Next change, remove the dark platter and candle holders from the armoire. Alternately, remove the platter and change the candles in the candle holders to white -- then you could always change them as the season changes leaving white most of the time but using other colors, too: orange for October; red for December and February; green for March, etc.. Then change the lamp shades to white ones. Choose those that are smooth and plain and that have straighter sides (about the size as the bottom width of the ones you now have). If you're going to paint, consider choosing a creamy off white or a neutral tan that is a light brown w/o any pink or yellow hue. Would not want carpet or a rug with a fireplace if it burns wood. You could lighten/brighten the fireplace by changing the fireplace screen. Live with each change you decide to make, at least briefly, to see if YOU and your family like it better....See MoreTheresa Janssen
