Hello ECA , Drab? Looks like a blank canvas to me! You're dining room is looking pretty chic, let's run with that: Orange can be an awesome accent to the navy's you have - the right shade would really pop on as sofa pillows, or to go a few shades lighter and add some teals.... As for rug, you can go with a navy to highlight the cream couch and pick up from your dining room for a cohesive look. A patterned rug would clash with what you have, so sticking with something simple would create a good juxtaposition (<---fancy word alert!) A poof (pouff?) off your chase lounge would add to the chic you have going on. Lounge chair - do you have enough room? A simple accent chair (thinking Eames Eiffel legged shell chair) would give some midcentury modern flavor. As for coffee table - a round one would really ease maneuvering around it... maybe white top over polished brass base to give it some flair. When you say, 'jewel,' that can be picked up in some nice vases or lamps on your side / coffee table Additionally - maybe a large mirror or artwork behind your dining room table would really give the space a, 'complete,' feel. You don't have to use a rug. But since your tables are so close in color to your flooring, I do think it would look nice to have one. You have a lot of gray and brown in the room. I would get a rug that has more color to warm up the space. The example above would look great. Look at the deeper blues and reds from your artwork for inspiration. The furniture doesn't need to be 100% on top of the rug, and you want a minimum of 1 foot from all your baseboards. Look at Overstock.com for some really nice affordable options.

So I was just about to post a new question here and was thinking about this thread and how so many of you wonderful humans took time out a few years ago (omg pre-pandemic!!) when I was redoing my one bedroom condo. I obvs have no idea if people continue to stay on this forum but I’m hoping at least a few people see this so I can say THANK YOU!! Long story to go along with the long years we’ve all faced from early 2020 to now, but short version is soon after I did “refreshed” my place, I moved out of the h*** that was condo living in DC amid the pandemic to stay with my folks in NC. And quickly decided I never wanted to move back to DC! So I sold my place!! And no, I do not regret for a moment the work I put into it bc (1) it looked awesome and (2) it sold within days of being on the market, at a price a tad higher than other places in my own bldg which I attribute to a bit of emotional response bc my condo looked FIRE. So thanks to everyone who made suggestions (even those I didn’t take!). I learned so much and have found so much more confidence in my ability to know what I like, how to ask for help, and most of all…not become overwhelmed with opinions!! I ask for them, but hey…people like different things, no biggie. Anyways, in case anyone is still around, thought I’d share a few pics of how it all turned out in the end. Happy spring everyone!

The coffee table is sized so anyone sitting on sofas can reach it. Not sure what additional lighting you might need besides the floor lamp? If you need more task lighting a floor reading lamp behind the plant would work and a directional light to up light the plant on a timer would be great. Set to come on at dusk and go out at your bedtime. Here’s my vision. I selected this sofa table because it has two drawers. Could be drop zone for keys or phone chargers etc.
