First find another place for the Rumba, rug, and cat climber. Also the extra boxes by the door. Then I would take out of the room, the stuff that is on top of everything...ie globe, books, drink mug, small lamp. Things you do not use all the time...box them up and get them out of the room for now. In other words, declutter so that you have a clean slate to start with. I am thinking your desk could be put another way with the cabinet (with printer) behind you, along with needed files in the low cabinet....maybe you could invest in a low file cabinet. A nice sheer curtain on the window like in your inspo picture would soften everything. The tall bookcase looks unorganized.....any way of putting a curtain on it or doors? Just for now. I can see how you want a sofa or love seat but not sure there is room. Will the L come off of your desk? One straight desk would be easier to place in the room. As for the cords....there are many types of cord covers that might work for you. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. Organization and cluttering is something I will be ding. I am more concerned about layout. What should I put where, and if there are any recommendations for furniture that might better suit a new layout.

Could you post a floorplan with measurements of walls, window, door, etc?

Floor plan measurements:

Figure out your desk placement first. You can place a desk facing the door, with the side on the window wall, which lets you look out the widow. Then place your printer, shelving, and other items along the long back wall and corner, so they are not the first thing you see when entering the room. An alternative is to place a desk with the side on the short left side wall, about 2/3 of the way toward the window, and again, place your shelving and printer, etc behind you on the back wall and back corner. Regardless of how you arrange the room, you don't have room for a sofa. But you may be able to fit an armchair in the space if you change your desk to a straight one instead of the "L" shape.

heres some thoughts on layout...
float a desk, not a L shape desk like you have, but a rectangular desk, so that it is facing the window and the chair will go behind the desk so you can look straight out the window. put a long console table with a bunch of storage on wall C. this will be behind the chair. add two occasional chairs on wall D that will face the end of the desk. add a round side table between the two chairs. keep wall A open for traffic flow and to keep the window area free of anything blocking it... heres the concept, but in this pic, the bay window is in the wrong spot. think of the window in front of the desk instead.

@Theresa Janssen I like that! Only thing is if I face the window and have a console on wall C, the desk and chair will be pushed out basically right in front next to the doors/entryway.

@Beth H - Thank you! I really like the Ikea ideas and the pipe and wood plank one! Maybe on wall C or D. I don't like not facing the door or window but those seem to to be the best options to help hide cords and add practicality for my monitors.

one more thought.... put a smaller work area to the left of the window on the same wall as the window. a pic below shows the concept. console still on wall C. add a round table floating in front of the window between the window and console and have two chairs for the round table. you would have a couple different work areas to use. second pic below shows concept of round table floating but might need a smaller table

Liz, I have had a home office for years in addition to my work office. Erinsean was talking about decluttering as a logical first step.. When we live with things too long, we stop seeing them and the roadblock to creativity they present. When I arranged my offices, I made a list of all the activities I needed to do in the space. I listed all my storage requirements. Using graph paper I made scaled drawings of each office and then made graph paper cutouts of all the furniture I needed in the room. I cut out file cabinets, bookshelves, desks, office chairs, etc. I could move these paper cutouts into different configurations and save myself the trouble of moving heavy furniture. But the most important thing in an actual office is to make it functional for the work you have to accomplish. For instance my hobby requires five two drawer file cabinets. The business part of my office requires three four drawer file cabinets. I need a bulletin board of good size, eight or ten maps, and a project board on my walls. I want to be able to easily reach the files I use most often and relegate lesser used files to another part of the room. I need storage for all the office supplies and I, at one point, needed three printers. You have said there is nothing you like, furniture, printer, storage....I think some of your dissatisfaction with your office stems for the open shelving because there is too much visual distraction while you are working. I am easily distracted, so I need most of my items behind doors or filed.
