Don't know among those birds but I have watched a Killdeer hatch and run in less than an hour. Cute as could be, looked like a Ostrich with those long legs.

The logic is....birds that follow mom need their eyes open immediately. Birds that grow up in a nest ......don't.

Nicole has the right clue. There's a large group of bird babies that hatch out ready to run immediately, with a full complement of fluffy feathers and an appetite for hunting their own food.
