I learned that word back in 1968 when a doctor taught my husband how to use one, and wrote a prescription for us to buy one so we could monitor my pressure at home and not have to come into his office every day. And yes, 'way back then' they were not OTC as they are now. Nor were they digital, you had to use a stethoscope and know how to listen.

Yep, it measures a person's blood pressure. I've had an Omron blood pressure monitor since the early 1990s when my cardiologist "ordered" me to get one, so I could keep track of my BP at home.

When you have your blood pressure taken, you should preferably be sitting upright, with your back straight (don't slump!) and against the back of the chair. Feet flat on the ground. Breathe normally, and don't talk while it is being taken!
