Shopping - Home Goods store
Comments (10)World market used to carry Swedish Ligonberries, but alas, no more. I am an afficionado of fine porcelains, art glass, and other decorative wares, from around the globe. I can't afford a lot of it, but I appreciate it. Some of it has to be antique for quality, but there are still some companies out there, producing exceptionally fine goods, today, like Hutschenruether. Of course, a small figurine from them will run about $300. Lladro is more affordable, but not nearly as pretty. Limoges and Dresden must be antique, as with Satsuma, although the Satsuma contemporary pieces are still pretty....just not of the same art quality. Nippon pieces must be antique, but there are still some good contemporary wares from Japan, as well. In contemporary glass, Lalique and Daum Nancy, lead the way, followed by Sabino. You can often find a few really nice items at Tuesday Morning sales, but the good stuff only lasts a short time, before it is gone. They have had Doulton, Coalport, Lalique, and Kincaid art prints, over the past few years. They have also had some Royal Albert (by Doulton). The main store on Inwood, is the best source, but the smaller suburban stores also get some of the good pieces. There is an art glass shop at Preston Royal, that has some very nice pieces, and one at the Frisco Mall, as well. Of course, Needless Mark-up has Daum Nancy. I buy a piece of cameo glass from China now and then, as they do make some better stuff, at acceptable prices, if you are discriminating about what you buy. The Franz fine porcelain is made in China, also, and it is very good stuff. Lotton art glass makes some wonderful pieces, as well as Orient and Flume. My taste runs to traditional and antique looks, in fine pieces, rather than modern. Furniture.....that is an entirely different matter. It has gotten really difficult to find quality furniture anywhere. The only places I would go now, if I needed something, would be Weir's, or Haverty's. Too much low quality goods which look nice.....but it is all painted on over particle board, from China or Taiwan.....in most furniture stores, like Ashley. I am glad I got most of my furniture while it was available. Quality furniture has become so expensive, almost no one can afford it, today. One thing you can be sure of.....if it is quality, it will not be inexpensive, whether porcelain, glass, pottery or wood. Even Van Briggle contemporary pottery is very expensive, for the really large pieces (as well as some of the smaller ones.) Of course, I now look for Native pieces, of fine goods, although that isn't any less expensive!...See MoreGrocery Store Shopping and Making Lists
Comments (12)I'm one who would rather do anything than go shopping, grocery or otherwise. It occurred to me that if I used my head I could eliminate the backtracking that nearly doubled my time in the grocery store. Since I typically shop at the same store, I mapped each aisle and used the aisle numbers to organize the list of items I buy most often. I laid this out in Excel, allowing a few blank lines here and there. This list fits 2/page on letterhead size paper. The last section is dry cleaning/fish market/pharmacy/library/hardware so I can plan my route, save gas and reduce the number of side trips. I print 2-3 sheets at a time and post one on my refrigerator. Whenever I am low on something it goes on the list and it's rare I run out of anything. We staple coupons to the list and when it's time to go shopping, half the work is already done. Even DH, who is ultra disorganized, has gotten with the program. If he knows his errands will be near a grocery store, he will take the list or call home and I can rattle it off in seconds. Any store layout changes (a pet peeve) are easily updated in the Excel file. The 15 minutes this took years ago has repaid me many times over....See MoreAnyone ever shopped at NC furniture outlets?
Comments (15)Bee, yes. That is the company. I actually considered the Claudia, which is the same as the Chloe but in leather, when purchasing but went with the Blair instead since it was much more comfortable and better suited for everyday use. The reviews online are great and one of the sales people(not the person selling it to me) even told me that he had never had complaints in the many years that they have carried that line. That had to be a blatant lie. In less than a year I have gone through three of these sofas (my story with them is a loooong one) - three different issues. As I said, I did not expect the sofa to last me a lifetime, but I certainly expected more than six months of use from it. I would not advise anyone to purchase furniture from this company. You may have a wonderful experience with the sofa, but you may also have a year of nightmares which will end in you having to find a replacement. I have found many sites with complaints about their furniture - after my problems began and I performed a search of course. If you do decide to go ahead with the purchase and happen to have problems that the regular furniture and bedding customer service will not help you with, let me know and I will be more than happy to give you their corporate customer service number. Had I not called corporate, I would probably still be waiting on a replacement cushion on the sleeper sofa (same Blair group) that was originally purchased. The up-side is that I get to hang on to their dreadful sofa until the replacement is delivered. I am scared of buying anything new regardless of the manufacturer, because you just never know. I am very tempted to buy an older (retro/vintage) sectional and have it reupholstered. I have seen a few that I like. My thought is that if it lasted for 20 years or more and is still in great shape, then it will probably last another 20....See MoreHas anyone ever purchased from Tile Shop?
Comments (17)Hi I have used this place called Thetileshop.com. they have a lot of locations. I ordered my tile online, and one of their employees delivered it to my door the very next day in the trunk of a Lexus! I never get tired of telling that story. $1200 worth of marble leaves plenty of room in a big Lexus trunk, too! The service was stellar in 2008.
