Comments (20)Sorry for the delay Frameless cabs are European in origin which means they are metric ( US & England are the only Imperial holdouts left on the planet ). All your modern hardware ( hinges & slides )are designed in metric around the 32mm system. True frameless cabs are all in increments of 32mm, so a base cab would be 768mm ( 24 increments of 32mm ) This makes drawer and door sizes easy, as you could have a 6,6,6,6 or a 5,6,6,7 or an 8,8,8 or a 5 drawer ( 5 x32 ) & a 19 door ( 19 x 32 ). This is all very exact. The reveals on euro cabs are usually 3mm between doors and drawer fronts. When you place two cabs together, they need to have a shared 3mm reveal, so in actuality they only have 1.5mm each of a reveal. Where is this going? Veneer core plywood has never been nor will ever be flat or have uniform thickness (3/4" ply can go from 11/16 to 23/32 throughout the sheet ). So, you need these crazy exact reveals you dont have a square face frame to hide an out of square box so all your door and drawer front reveals dont line up. It can look horrible. Mdf and pb have a bad name but they are flat and consistent in thickness. They are the superior substrate anyone who tells you different ask to see a true frameless cab made from ply and check the reveals....See MoreWeek 59: busy, busy, busy!!!!
Comments (35)My electrician (aka hubby) finally got my second pendant hung over the island today!! You may or may not remember when I posted this pic back in September or October Right after I built and installed my temp island. The area looked, quite frankly, somewhat ridiculous. An 8 ft long island with this one lone pendant hanging over one end of it. The reason it was there was because that was an existing box that used to have a fluorescent light box on it. I knew I wanted to put in another box ran off of the first one and install 2 pendants, well, today it finally got done!! Yay!! Not only is it aesthetically pleasing but there is soooo much more light over my island now! Can I just mention again how much I love the smoke colored glass in these pendants? Also, in keeping with our weekly thread "no accomplishment is too small", I tracked down some spare 2x6 and cut blocks to fit in the old window spot. I also got the piece of drywall cut to install. The only reason I haven't yet is because I am thinking of creating a "time capsule" to put in the wall before I close it off. Chances are that spot will be opened again at some point in the future, it is where the MIL quarters and main house meet. Even if I never open it back up, I thought it would be cool to leave a "treasure" there for someone to discover in the future. Tell me truthfully, does that sound really lame or kinda cool?...See MoreFOTESS April: Busy Busy Bees!
Comments (85)Sorry, I'll be no help about your seeds, Orooj. I'm sure seeds do differently based on weather conditions and locations. There are seeds that I winter sow here and I start sowing them in January, but did you use winter sowing techniques ... and the other issue would be if these were seeds that were okay with those January temperatures? ...aside from that, I was one of the people waiting for the bingo word "queen" - so hooray - almost bingo for me! Thanks again for bee-ing our hostess. Jeanne...See MoreHow do you feel about businesses requiring masks
Comments (60)The vaccines are very very good but they aren’t 100%. So for an individual person, the risk is still there (a small risk) of being hospitalized with covid even as population deaths and hospitalizations go down. The same as I was vaccinated for measles and still contracted a very serious case as a child. The biggest benefit of widespread vaccination is reducing the ability of the virus to spread so that any one person is unlikely to encounter the virus and if they get it, less likely to pass it on. It looks like vax rates of 50% and above combined with protective measures (masks, physical distancing) have been enough to reduce the spread in places that have achieved it (eg the UK) even with the b117 variant. Our provincial guidance is that they’d like to see 75% of the population vaccinated before a total reopen. We’re at about 50% first dose so we have a ways to go....See Morenickel_kg
