Austin's Janet - And Others
Comments (3)Pam, mine was threatening to turn into an octopus but I was firm with it and this year it's showing a lot less of that propensity. I cut it back and gave it alfalfa meal and it seemed to fill in, rather than snaking out again. I hope yours does well. At its best I think it's quite pretty. Randy, are you joking about Pretty Jessica not being heard about often? I could swear that rose has its own fan club on this forum! Ingrid...See MoreAustin's Janet revisited
Comments (8)Even though the temperature here is high in the summer the humidity is usually between 10-20%. I don't know how Janet would perform in high humidity but I know that I would wilt. High humidity actually makes me ill and, since I live in a Mediterranean climate about 25 miles from the ocean, spring, fall and winter are quite nice, with high humidity being a rarity. I lived in BC for five years, part of that time on Vancouver Island, but also in Prince George and Vancouver, and I think BC is really beautiful, with so much wilderness still left there, and such beautiful scenery....See MoreAustin's 'Janet' for PNW?
Comments (7)I wish someone would answer your question! It's been sitting unanswered. I can only say I've seen 'Janet' here in So Cal and it was a short, shrubby bush, lacking the long arching canes suitable for use as a short climber. Based only on comments I've read, have a look at 'Crocus Rose' which is supposed to be both large and a good repeater. I've had experience with 'Scepter'd Isle', which formed a big arching shrub here. But hopefully someone in the PNW will chime in on 'Janet'!...See MoreDavid Austin’s Fair Bianca
Comments (8)I do not grow Fair Bianca and I hope someone who does comments here soon. I do however grow a good variety of David Austin roses and very very few are blackspot resistant enough in the south to be grown no spray. I specially love white roses and I am always looking for healthy ones. I am pretty certain I do not have her because the reviews have not been stellar. The best “near whites” Austins I grow no spray are Desdemona and Lichfield Angel and Claire Austin. I also grow tranquility which gets more blackspot that the other two but it is very vigorous and makes good blooms for cutting. I do not have a good picture of Claire because it was new this year, but it stayed very very clean. Desdemona Tranquility Lichfield Angel is excellent Fair Bianca does look gorgeous and I hope someone else can give you some good news. If you end up trying it please let me know how she does for you....See Moresultry_jasmine_nights (Florida-9a-ish)
