I'm a KD since the mid-80's. I wouldn't say they are lying. Cambria wants to maintain more control over their tops by doing their own fabricating. That is not necessarily a bad thing...witha all the fly by night fabbers out there. However, I have a great fabricator and would rather HE do it for me. I does take a bit longer sometimes and there is issues with my customers previewing slabs (yes, some people still want to pre-view quartz). Fabricators probably do make a little less on Cambria since they are really only doing the templates and installations....but not the sales people...at least in my area. Cambria has been shuffled around to several different fabricators in my area over the years....so yes, I think there is some truth to fabricators having issues with Cambria. There is also probably some truth to the warranty issues. Cambria has 'pooling' issues with several colors. Many people do not like this effect.

Regarding UV stability, most (possibly all) resins and epoxies yellow over time. Dekton doesn't have any, and is thus UV stable. Dekton is an ultracompact MSS (manufactured solid stone), which is different from stone powder in resin. It is insanely hard, which means it is also hard to cut. Some people have problems with Dekton chipping, and Constantino says this is due to the fabricator not using appropriate and fresh blades, which results in invisible micro fractures that chip/break after istallation over time. Meanwhile the fabricators blame it on the Dekton. Personally I am obsessed with the look (matte, looks like real stone), but I am leary of the chipcidents and finger pointing game that ensues.

I am a fabricator. Do some shopping. Around here Cambria is never less than HanStone even with the waste advantage a very large Cambria fabricator has. Here we can buy 1/2 slabs of Hanstone which pretty much negates the waste advantage of the large Cambria fabricator. The advice to see the slabs was good advice. The consumer usually expects quartz surface to be as homogeneous as formica or solid surface and this is increasingly problematic as the quartz manufacturers introduce more and more variation into their products. A 12 X 12" (or smaller) sample simply does not adequately present the actual look of the slab with all its variation. It has long been the practice by competent fabricators to have consumers view their slabs of natural stone when the stone has a lot of variation to avoid the possibility of a disappointed end user when the actual countertops include too much (or too little) of the features in a varied stone. The variation which is present in some of the newer quartz colors make this practice necessary for those newer quartz colors if missed expectation are to be avoided.
