Poll - when do you plant shallot bulbs and where are you??
Comments (12)I would be grateful to know the spacing in inches, that you consider "much too close" for your shallots, and what you tried in 2011, and your results. I'm about ready to put some in my EBs. Thanks! >Posted by dancinglemons 7B (My Page) on >Wed, Oct 12, 11 at 3:39 "Just thought I'd give an update. I planted the shallots last fall (2010) in my EarthBoxes. They overwintered great and gave me some nice shallots in early June 2011. I planted them much too close so the shallots were not good size but in a few days I will plant for 2011 and they will be a better spacing. "...See Morehow do you set up a water barrel
Comments (16)Hi Pictures?? I'm pushing my frustration level by just getting on the internet let alone posting pix.lol ?? My setup wouldn't apply to any other garden anyway. The "basic" collection system all have things in common. Container to hold the water,Way to get the rainwater in. Way to get the rainwater out .Way to keep the mosquitoes out and last how much water do I need and the quality. I still keep a standard 80 gallon as well as two 30 gallon plastic garbage cans . This is the "clean " supply for the aquariums. The main storage area is a 5x10 above ground container made of stacked 4x4 timbers lined with fiberglass tarp. This is used for the plants. This can be made any size and shape and since it becomes a "WAter garden" does not have to be located near the house or disguised. The whole system cost around 400 bucks and holds approximately 1400 gallons. Above ground means that you can simply dip the water out or a simple siphon. Since it's a functional water garden you can keep fish in it so no mosquito problem even though wide open. A drawback to this is that you can only draw so much water from it. Usually around 300 gallons of useable water for irrigation. I find that rain gutters are the only reliable way to get enough water to be worthwhile. Which means "dirty water" but insignificant in average rainfall for the above purposes. Wouldn't drink it !! What I most like about the system besides the setup cost was that I don't lose a square inch of grow area.!!! Imagine 1400 gallons of rain barrels? lol Of course since I'm a water garden freak anyway ??? gary...See MoreI hope there are dishes in the sink when I get home from work ...
Comments (14)Well, the maiden voyage is complete...very happy. Best thing was that the tops of the glasses were dry. My Bosch never could master that! AND the dishes weren't so hot at the end that I could unload it sooner than 4 hours after it finished without burning my hands! I replaced a traditional dishwasher (Bosch) with these drawers. I was very happy--I sold my Bosch to a guy who was buying it for his nephew who just bought a row house in Philly, and didn't have one. That makes me feel happy to know it is going to be well loved. And that Crate & Barrel sugar dispenser? Works like a charm to fill up the soap dispenser. F&P really should start making these for sale. I mean, it measures out the right amt for you in teaspoon increments, the tip is the right length. Just perfect. And I am so happy we went this retailer. The installers were unbelievable according to my husband. They actually put in an outlet to plug the d/w into....I guess our old one was hardwired. AND they did some plumbing too. Boy, that was money well spent. Time to start collecting dishes for the next load!...See MoreWhen you were looking at homes did the realtor drive you or you met up
Comments (26)When I bought my house, the realtor drove me around. But then again I met her through an organization we were both part of, even though we weren't especially friends. I was glad we drove around together because it enabled more frank conversation and spontaneous questions. (And some laughter after the House with The Indiana Jones stairway down into the basement, or after escaping the House with the Severely Bowed Roof, which we hadn't noticed until we had crossed through it and were out on the deck.) She was willing to show me the neighborhoods, too. When I hunted for the land I'm currently building on, the realtor just gave me the address and I went on my own - she never showed up at all. (I met her when I first signed up with her, and just once after. She hadn't indicated at our first meeting that she'd not actually be walking these properties with me.)...See MoreToni Hamlett
