Comments (6)I'm so sorry I never replied here-- like I said, I'm a newbie to posting and I didn't have the right settings to get notified when anyone replied and I just assumed no one ever responded! Anyway, thank you so much for your responses. I know it was months ago, but if you could believe it, still not one major renovation has started. When I finally made the decision to go with the luxury vinyl plank, specifically Mannington Adura Heritage Buckskin (if you are curious!), we started shopping quotes and ohhhh man confusion set in. It's so funny how you go into something so convinced you know what you want and where to start, you talk to a contractor, and then suddenly it seems like everything you previously knew is out the window. We had cabinet contractors telling us to get the floors in first, flooring guys saying floors go in last and we needed to do cabinets first (which we weren't budgeting for yet)... Not to mention we found out we'll be only living in this house part time because my husband's job is now going to split time in another city... EEK! Needless to say, it got put on the backburner for a little, but we figure that with the split time, it'll be a perfect time to have a construction zone for a house... Since we won't be living in it full time! Hopefully we'll find some contractors we like and trust so we can get this renovation moving! PurpleDot, how did your flooring decision go? I'd love to know!...See MoreNeed help in bathroom floor tile choices
Comments (29)Zaz and Beth, I finally have some samples on my floor to look at (from the Tile Shop) and that's helpful, but it's a pain in the b*** to figure out what samples to order and from whom to order them - and expensive too! I could probably order an equal number of interesting samples from Merola/Home Depot, not to mention the additional ideas you've both now given me, but at some point I need to stop. Even though I feel I've 'narrowed' my focus to something with blue and/or patterned-moroccan-style, there are still so many options and resources to look at. I do like all the additional examples you gave me, Beth. Is EliteTile considered a good quality resource? I have felt comfortable having a retail face to consult with (Tile Shop and Home Depot) but if you and Zaz and others with more experience feel it can be ok to order from a place like Wayfair and this brand of tile, then I feel more confident about that. Both Tile Shop and HD have nice options too, but I've been a bit frustrated that I haven't been able to see an actual sample of a large-size cobalt option .... and the nice on sale lantern blue one is beautiful. What a price, too!! Weirdly, as I look more closely at the Wayfair/EliteTile Moroccan tiles, I'm seeing several that are the exact same patterns that Merola/HomeDepot offer. Do either of you know anything about this? I'd kind of like to add pictures of the samples I have from Tile Shop to see what you both think, but it might need to wait until tomorrow since this day is over and I'm beat. (Also, have other things in addition to tile shopping which I'm sure you both can relate to.) I am grateful to have both of you to converse with on this. Comments (12)Those are STUNNING, HIGH-END floors! I mean it! The tile size, layout and in-lay accents are STUNNING! There are people who would LOVE to have those floors (sigh...or the BUDGET to install them). That being said, they are in the creamier/peach travertine colouring. Peach and gray don't normally go together...now without a TON of Certified Kitchen Designer help. Because you have a high-end home with some higher priced finishes (LOVE you space BTW!!! Bright and unique...two of my FAVOURITE things) I would HIGHLY recommend hiring a well versed (ahem...long established) Certified KD. Save the money you would spend on the flooring ($2/sf to REMOVE the tile + $18/sf to install new tile) and hire a designer to help you see where your home can go without removing the amazing tile. To replace (equal value) the tile you have, you are looking at the HIGHER priced tile installs (higher value product + HIGH value labour). Replacing all that tile won't be cheap. If you are unsure of your budget, then I suggest you sit down and work some numbers. A Certified KD will help you find a balance between budget and style. It appears your kitchen is in more need of a redo than the flooring. I would keep my eye on the prize. And yes, wall colouring can reduce the "floating" sensation you have in your home. Again, the KD can help with home colours as well. Please keep us posted. I think this will be an impressive project when everything is said and done (and yes...I think reupholstering your furniture is a GREAT idea)....See MoreIs this a good tile choice
