Comments (14)I’m not the OP but this question relates to my current dilemma. We are replacing treads on stairs and the “discussion” is stuck on the risers. Should they be stained to match or painted white. I have seen both but it seems more recent design is going with stained risers. Since the last time we tried to redo these stairs was 13 years ago and we couldn’t agree on a lot of things and scrapped the project, I don’t want to get stuck again. The pics are of our staircase ripped out carpeting, a pic with stained risers, and a pic with painted risers. Since we are going through the work and expense, I want to make sure we aren’t putting in dated design from the get go. The other point we are discussing is wood spindles vs metal....See MoreUpkeep of painted staircase - black treads and white risers
Comments (2)I am wondering the same. What did you decide? I would like to hear more about how painter stair treads or held up and what exact products were used to paint them....See MorePaint stair railing?
Comments (10)Well assuming you have to prime all that beautiful wood anyways, you might as well prime everything white. Then paint the top rail black as you expect. Step back and see how you like the look. If you're not sure, go ahead and throw just a little bit of black on the newel post. If you don't like it, well put some more primer on there and a bunch of coats of paint to get back to white. =) I bet the black newel post will look nice, it would look like a black frame with white spindles within....See Morebschr
