2' blinds on french doors anyone?
Comments (19)We changed our lever handles to round ones and it is better but we still have to open carefully or our hands will knock the blind out of track. We got the blinds without holes - i.e. the strings don't go through the slat, the slat just sits on the string with a little notch to hold it in place - also a nightmare the seller didn't tell us about. They are perfectly stable on the windows but not on the doors that we use often. I researched the extenders but they were expensive and I couldn't find one I was sure would fit our lever handles so we went with the new round ones. We also thought about cutting out a space for the lever but I just couldn't envision it looking right. Good luck; I'd love to hear what you come up with!...See MoreRoman Shades on French Doors
Comments (3)I don't think I've ever seen a french door that the wooden parts of it weren't solid wood. So, I don't think having a solid surface to mount hardware will be a problem. Oilpainter is right that the shade will bang when it's opened or closed. Only you can decide if this is a major drawback. Go check out mounting hardware to see how the different styles are mounted and how the shade has to be constructed to conform to a mounting style that suits you. There is something out there for almost anything you want to do. Believe me. You're not the only one to ever have this problem. Unless the door is opened and closed a million times a day, I would much rather have a banging shade to a drape that impedes the door opening or that would have to be drawn or pulled back to use the door....See MoreTilt and Turn and French Door Blind Options
Comments (3)Hi Prime Ohio Real Estate - we’re really happy with our choice. We have 1% solar/roller blinds (allows 1% of light through) in black with a reflective backing. We have the narrowest black valance (painted the same colour code as the window frame) so the valance, which is flush with the wall, just disappears and works well with our contemporary style. All of the windows with the exception of our Tilt and Turn and large sliding door are the same. For those we used exterior mounted Habitat screens that work perfectly with this particular brand of window (Innotech). Because our French door opens outwards and has the same drywall return as our windows were were able to have the interior mounted blind. (Plus the door handle is not in the way). We would have gone with another exterior mounted blind if we weren’t able to have the interior one. Privacy, for us, didn’t really matter as we do not have people nearby. Surprisingly though, the reflective back makes a huge difference - because the blinds are black it’s possible to see out but not in (unless your face is pressed to the glass and you shade any reflections with your hands). At night with the lights on you can see shadows if you look in. The motor for the French door blind is battery operated but all the others are hard-wired. Everything works seamlessly - all the motors are from Somfy. The photos show the blind up behind the valance, the blind down, the blind halfway down viewed from the exterior, and the other 2 bathroom windows so you can see how they match. I’m happy to share any other info with you so please just let me know if you need more. Cheers!...See MoreBamboo blinds for French doors and side windows.
Comments (6)Thanks Patricia, I know I love that the room is surrounded by windows. I love this room. We added wrap around built in bookcases and window bench. This room is more like our family/library/office/movie room. So much right?! I like the bamboo blinds because they will give the room a needed natural color as right now it is all black and white. We have a projector but right now we are only watching a movie at night as there is too much light coming in during the day. I want the lightness of the bamboo but with the option of complete blackness during the day....See Morewickedwhite
