Do you like Kilim rugs? I do. Will you help me choose?
This is going to seem silly, but if you’re so inclined, please humor me. I have stared at these rugs for so long now, my eyes are blurry.
I know! They’re so similar — colors, designs, style. They’re all 2+ ft x 4+ ft and each is on sale for $69/free shipping! Great deal. But I can’t decide which I like best. It’s totally opinion and personal preference, no right or wrong answer, but I’d love to know your choice for the fun of it.
Scene: Music room/office in spare bedroom. Big window, great light. Tan carpet I can’t change. Gold/tan walls I love and wouldn’t change. Room is a little bit country, a little bit rock roll ... guitars on walls, vintage Duncan Phyfe china cabinet for collected pretties and storage, antique Mexican saddle on stand, vintage Southwestern floor lamp, vintage tooled leather stool my late husband’s grandfather made, vintage desk chair my uncle used on our family ranch when I was growing up, vintage map of Long Island (I married a Yankee), cool Mexican pine chair the guitar player uses, custom framed Stones poster from last concert of theirs we attended (adding another in May!!), weird old corner table computer sits on, western art .... hopefully you get the picture. It’s eclectic, electric (hur hur, guitars), fun, vintage-y, cool. And it needs a Kilim rug. Tan carpet is, well, tan carpet, and I want something to break it up.
Before any freak-outs over rugs on top of carpet ... this ain’t my first rodeo. I currently have 4 other rugs on carpet, including a cowhide, throw rugs, area rugs. It’s fine.
Blah blah ... please tell me your favorite. Thank you. :)

The room ...... just your basic, small suburban spare bedroom. We’re currently renting after selling last house, or I’d remove carpet.
The carpet is clean and in new condition; the room was hardly used before we moved in. Shadows in these pics make it look skanky, I know.

Antique saddle. My dad won the saddle blanket in ‘87 (cutting horse competition).
My late husband’s grandfather made this. I cherish it.
Some much-loved stuff in there, including antique cowbells (from rodeo/bull riding) and my prized Breyer horse model, Man O’ War, circa ‘70s, Jamaican carved wood vases my husband collected with his late wife, beach rocks from Cape Cod visit when my DD was little, old pottery, etc.Oh! I forgot about the big grapevine balls, forgot to put them up after Christmas. IGNORE THE BALLS —
I know it’s very cluttered, but it is what it is! Big downsize from last house. Let’s call it a layered look. :DThat old printer the size of a small car will be out of here soon.
The Long Island map, that my husband assures me everyone growing up on LI would remember seeing (this was in his house when he was a kid).

Comments (27)I bring them to work and give them to my co-workers. I do that with a lot of the extra divisions and seedling plants in the spring. This year I brought in 10 or so divisions of Siloam Doodlebug and 8 divisions of Snowy Eyes and a few of some others. I also bring in other plants, like Lady's mantle, iris, perennial geraniums and stuff. I hate composting perfectly good plants and I'm too lazy to sell them. Most of my co-workers are not die-hard gardeners like us and don't care about things like names and genetics - they're just happy to get a nice plant with neat flowers for free! Comments (8)Here's a picture of my nook with it's still-undecorated walls. I like the square rug because it defines the space where 2 more walls would be. Extending that logic, perhaps a square rug would make your space feel too closed-in, especially if the doorway is narrow. In that case I would say go round or octagonal. Comments (56)Ah ha!! Gotcha : ) Here it is a bit smaller, and then a distant shot of the first, larger one. Now I'm thinking the larger one is fine and has more presence and definition. Maybe in between? I tried some of those curved iron accents I've seen at ending positions or posts (but can't remember the details, so it just shows the general look.) And, ya know, a piece of gray flagstone on top of those columns and even across the wall looks great and ties nicely with the roof and drive. I would think you could fit the moulding piece around the gutter area, hiding it. As a front cap sort of thing. It's a design problem to work out : ) Have to figure any water issues in. Comments (3)We have verde peacock granite, which is similar to the verde butterfly you're considering using, plus white cabs and medium brown hardwood floors. We went with white subway tiles and are so happy with the results. It reads classic and the contrast between the white cabs and dark counters looks great. Thank you, Ida! Hmm, I like the idea of tree of life.
The antique saddle has always been just for display (my dad had it, then gave it to me during one of his moves, now I won’t give it back). :D Sadly, I had to sell our horses, trailers, tack, saddles during/after ... well, you know. It was tough.
Look at this steel horn! Hurts just looking at it! None of us has ever figured out why all the pitting. Curious.
