What do you do about daylilies you don't like?
Comments (27)I bring them to work and give them to my co-workers. I do that with a lot of the extra divisions and seedling plants in the spring. This year I brought in 10 or so divisions of Siloam Doodlebug and 8 divisions of Snowy Eyes and a few of some others. I also bring in other plants, like Lady's mantle, iris, perennial geraniums and stuff. I hate composting perfectly good plants and I'm too lazy to sell them. Most of my co-workers are not die-hard gardeners like us and don't care about things like names and genetics - they're just happy to get a nice plant with neat flowers for free! I've been doing this for a few years and it's always fun to have people come back to me and rave over a plant I gave them a year or 2 ago....See MoreWhich rug shape do you like with a round kitchen nook table?
Comments (8)Here's a picture of my nook with it's still-undecorated walls. I like the square rug because it defines the space where 2 more walls would be. Extending that logic, perhaps a square rug would make your space feel too closed-in, especially if the doorway is narrow. In that case I would say go round or octagonal. The table is 48" in diameter, the chairs are smaller than today's chairs and the walls are 7 and 7.5 feet. Hope this helps....See MoreHelp! I'm lost on what backsplash to choose do you have pics
Comments (3)We have verde peacock granite, which is similar to the verde butterfly you're considering using, plus white cabs and medium brown hardwood floors. We went with white subway tiles and are so happy with the results. It reads classic and the contrast between the white cabs and dark counters looks great. Love the idea of using marble on the island to break it up a bit!!...See MoreDo You Like Fried Potatoes and How do You Like Them
Comments (33)My husband makes the best french fries. He cuts the russet potatoes in rounds....doesn't peel them. Then he cuts them in sticks, so they are about the size and thickness of my little finger. He has a pot of oil, and he dumps them all in at once...which tends to cool the oil a bit, but when the oil reheats and they finish frying, it is like they have been fried twice, which is the real way to make french fries. You fry them, drain them, and then fry them again. They are lightly crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I used to always cut my french fries length ways, but after seeing how he does it, I changed to his way. His still taste better than mine. I am another one who loves an electric skillet. I don't think I have ever fried potatoes in one, but I like frying chicken it better than I do using cast iron. And I have over 100 pieces of cast iron cookware. Or, did have. I have given a lot of it away....See MoreJilly
