would you do full glass or a pony wall for the shower?

Hello! I’m in the middle of remodeling and can’t decide. The bathroom will all be marble so I feel like I need to make it full glass to see it and open it up. My friend/designer says no to a corner bench so I should only have one if I do a pony wall. She recommends having a stool or teak bench instead. The walls will all be shiplap so the outside portion of the shower would be that if I did a pony wall. All walls and vanity to be painted BM white dove.

I am thinking if I do full glass then the shower tile needs to be more interesting and should be 6x12 and then 3” hex on the shower floor. Bathroom floor could be 6x12 but in a herringbone pattern.
Originally had 12x24 shower walls with 3x12 bathroom floor herringbone, but if I do full glass that feels boring in the shower.
Thoughts? So hard to decide! Thanks!

Our remodeled master bathroom has a shower with two pony walls as it is built against a corner. I used white 4" Daltile for all the shower surfaces that aren't glass, with a decorative listello about a foot from the top (on the full-height back walls). I chose a triangular teak bench, a stool, actually, for sitting, so that I could move it around. I like the pony walls because they give me a nice sense of privacy, iow I feel somehow "protected" inside the shower. In addition, they have a couple of niches which hold bottles of shampoo and soap.

I chose the teak bench instead of something built-in because it is warm and comfortable and movable. We are very, very pleased with how everything works!

I don't understand "boring" ? Both ways below, none, and some. Pony can also be low. I don't see marble and shiplap no matter the tile.Real marble or a porcelain? A fifteen inch high pony can act as a bench/set down space/shave a leg option.. ...... ( third/fourth pic ) The floor in that bath is white Thassos marble with C marble . First bath is all C marble

The designer doesn't want to see your shower gel and shampoo?: ) LOL. tell her you'll decant to clear plastic. ?Good lord, the stuff is a fact of life . Beats a stupid niche in my world!

It is now occurring to me that I might be best off if I don't try to build up a pony wall and instead add whatever bracketing and bracing required to adequately support the "floating" countertop from the back wall. There are many things to take into consideration. Can it be done? Yes. But... Your shower enclosure installer will have to be at the top of his game. Safety is the first, second, and third thing to discuss. How will this be securely attached? What will be the widest pieces he can get polished and tempered? How many men to carry it? How does it get into your house-stairs, turns, walls, etc-what path can his men safely travel through your house?

I know that this comment is LATE, but maybe it will help someone…. I don’t know how they did it, but I recently assisted with a Holiday Homes Tour. One of the houses that we used for this event (thanks to the builder’s generosity) had EXACTLY the kind of wall you described in the primary bathroom and it was BEAUTIFUL…. I so wish that I had thought to do this during my homes construction…. I DETEST the 4-foot high pony wall in our shower and the view of the shower’s interior every time I walk into the bathroom…. I certainly hope that you were able to implement your vision for that space. ❤️

My vote would be glass. Not sure why your designer nixed the bench? I have a low-threshold shower with seat/bench and it's great.

All glass. Sounds beautiful. (Except the shiplap. Sleek and sophisticated real marble and glass mixed with rustic shiplap just seems odd.)

Not sure I understand your design plan, but I just returned from vacation in Aruba where the shower soaked most of the bathroom due to lack of walls, and the teak bench was a bit shifty due to the daily soaking. But the weather was great!!! Just want to make sure the pony wall will adequately contain the shower spray, and the bench will not fall apart in a few years. Sounds pretty!

I sure do not see marble and shiplap in the same space and I happen to think a simple 12 x24 tile on the floor amnd shower walls is a nice clean look with the hex on the shower floor . I never like built in benches in showers an a teak folding one works very well. I dislike shower niches and in my experience it there is a leak that is where it happens. There are lots of nice over the wall shampoo holders . But then I think toilet rooms inside a bathroom are just plain silly not at all like the Europen idea of a toilet room outside the main bathroom.. IMO boring beats too many different tiles everytime, the fewer grout lines the better for me,

Because the shower is only 5'5" deep.

Shiplap and marble....hmmmm. Rustic and classic mash-up. The most important thing in building the shower is proper waterproofing and tile installation. Smaller floor tile allows more grout to avoid a slippery floor. It looks like you have to be inside the shower to turn on the water, which means you get that nice cold blast of water to wake yourself up in the morning. Full glass gives you more to squeegee after you shower. A pony wall means less glass to squeegee but it may be a ledge where water collects.

Are you sure you don't want the shower door to swing the other way so it's easier to get in the shower and reach the controls?

You could save money if the shower were simply tile with a glass door.

Think about where you might was wall decor before you plan your ceiling lighting.

I might consider a pair of doors to access the closet instead of just one.

Here is a room with solid walls on both sides of the vanity and tub. It's a good place for robes or towel hoods

IMO the less glass to clean in the bathroom the better. Nothing wrong with having a full height wall.

If you are really clean and neat all the time in the bathroom, put in full glass. If not, put in a pony wall.
