How do you feel about cabs in kitchen - 2 colors?
Comments (33)Aktillery - I hope you don't mind I posted your kitchen but I do truly love it!! I hope you keep us updated with your new kitchen. Bet your house sold fast b/c of your previous kitchen!! jenanla, your kitchen is gorgeous!! I love all the elements you have chosen!! I hope you keep us updated - that reddish color would be perfect in my house, too:) Homeagain, thanks so much for the pics - an island just like that one has been in my mind!! I also like the idea of open shelving over the pennisula - I wouldn't have to change the pendant lights - I have tried to keep my eyes open for an antique piece I could repurpose for this spot. Parma & Teacats - yall are so funny!! I can't help it:) My Dh says save your ideas for the next house - but with the market like it is.....I am here for awhile!! Amac, I am so glad you posted!! I totally hear what you and Senko are saying! I did have a sisal rug in there but my puppy thought that was his personal litter box:( I still need window treatments & could add cushions for the barstools at the same time - great idea. Simpletaste - great ideas, too. Pattycakes, I would love to see pics of your kitchen!! Thank you all so much for your advice!! I am sorry if I didn't call out to your personally - it would be a looooooong post but I appreciate the vote of confidence!! This will not be an overnite thing like Reno! It seems like I have been in percolate mode with this kitchen for years! It just doens't feel right to me yet even thou it is fine. I also feel that for the neighborhood the kitchen could be better. BTW, I kinda like this rug for under the table & if I got a small island - get one to go under the island that matches. What do you think? Of course, everyone has seen this one, too but this is the eat in kitchen part. I still need window treatments & am leaning towards the pheasant fabric in a roman shade - maybe with a red border. You can barely see the white trim by the table there is a window that is 69" wide so it lets in good light & I love to look in the back yard where the bird feeders are! Old pic... > I found these chair cushions at Ballards for the barstools in the red check Smiles:).......See MoreDo you have cream-colored kitchen cabinets?
Comments (112)Hello SunnyCottage! I would agree that your paint project is going to creep further aground! Here's some food for thought, mined from the web. "A room with crown molding most likely has other trim as well, such as around doors and windows. Painting the crown molding to match the other molding in the room creates a cohesive environment. If the other trim in the room is stained, stain the crown molding to match. One exception is when the ceiling seems low in the room already -- a crown molding that is painted a different color than the walls may make the ceiling seem even lower because the highlighted molding draws the eyes upward. In this case, you might opt to paint crown molding and walls to match." I took one of my little forays into Photoshop to explore. This example shows painting the crown to match the ceiling (which was also given as an option to optically raise a ceiling on other websites). At least that is the intention of my doctored photo, but I think my attempts provide a laugh for experienced photoshoppers....See MoreWhat do you think of white upper cabinets and dark lower ones?
Comments (9)I currently have creamy white upper cabinets ,two 36"wide uppers have glass doors on either side of my corner sink. ( (Yes I love my corner sink) The lowers are dark stained birch. I have creamy white travertine look porcelain floor tile and St Cecilia granite which has a lot of orangish flecks so I painted my BS pumpkin. I did this house as a flip; we're living in it while we build The House. I picked the two color cabinets because the kitchen has two north facing windows and needed light, and it's smallish at 12X16. I wanted a white kitchen but couldn't convince my DH so we compromised. White on top, stained on bottom. Funny thing is everyone who comes here loves this kitchen! From friends and family to strangers who step in the door, to the plumber to the appliance repairman. All comment positively. So I'm doing a combo in the new house....See MoreHow to do the Upper Cabinets -1930s Kitchen
Comments (14)Maureen, If I'm reading your drawing correctly, you only have four feet from the window edge to the end of the counter on the left side of the sink. If you put in a corner upper cabinet and have it come all the way down to the counter, that will only leave you with 2 feet on the left for your working space. I think a useful exercise for you now, will be to list ALL the baking ingredients/supplies/appliances/bowls/etc that you want to store there. I have created a small baking area in my kitchen using drawers- it is such a pleasure opening a nice big drawer and having everything right there! I have a LS in the corner to hold appliances. We were going to have cupboards down to the counter, but there was a mistake with our order, they didn't arrive, and after living with it for a year now, we think it was serindipity- as we love having the extra counter space. Appliance garages are not easy retro-fits, and you have to make sure that your appliance WILL fit in there- our toaster oven would not have. I think a 3 drawer base, minimum 21 inches wide would be great for baking- then ask your kitchen guy if a LS would still fit in there (I don't think so). So you may need to look at a blind corner unit. A corner upper could hold mixing bowls, spices, etc. What I like about the corner upper, is that it brings those items closer to the front, so it's great for big items you can reach and pull out from the front, or items on a lazy susan that can be rotated to the front. I don't think you have to have matching shelving on both sides of the sink, (you don't have it now), I like the charming quirkiness of it. I would also avoid the temptation of bringing down the cupboards on the right. Once you add that extra counter space, you won't believe how much you will use that corner. You will be able to have two cooks working in there at once....See Moremeiraperl
