Please help me redecorate my master bedroom!
Comments (6)The most economical solution would be to bite the bullet and paint the desk from your teenage bedroom set that you are using as a vanity. Then ditch the teenage dresser and move the vanity. The shelves in your towers are currently being under utilized and you say you need storage for folded clothes. I would put curtains on the glass with top and bottom rods and use the shelves for the folded clothing. If the only reason the black curtain is there is to hide the cords, I would remove it and fill the area with wicker baskets that have covers. This will hide the cords and offer more storage. Paint the purple shelf black. Since you say you are willing to budget some money for improving the looks and function of the room I think you would be happier if you just got rid of the teenage furniture altogether. Sell it on CL. Then get a second hand secretary desk that looks more grown up and use it for a vanity. Get one that has a hutch to fill the wall space and you can use the cubbies for storage too. One that sits on legs would look light and airy in the room, but if storage is an issue, get one with drawers below. The flip down work surface would stay up most of the time so as not to crowd the room. These secretary pieces can be found on CL for cheap. You will feel more like a princess doing your routine at one of these than at you old teenage desk. If you sell the desk and dresser, and get a secretary the cost might be a wash. If you are planning on painting the secretary black anyway, you can even get a scuffed up one for very little money. Then with a secretary painted black being used as a vanity on the wall, and all the other furniture black, I think you could leave the two towers as they are as the economical option. You don't want everything to be all black do you? You just want to not have a myriad of wood tones and treatments. Your idea to get an entertainment amoire is nice. I think that a TV hidden behind doors is more peaceful for a bedroom and would look better being less cluttery. An amoire would have a smaller footprint in the room and also give that wall some breathing space. They are cuter too and you could find one that looks very feminine. Again, CL to the rescue. Buying a clothing amoire and adding a shelf inside for a TV, will give you style options that are more suited for a bedroom than a rec room. They are usually on feet and a big bulky thing like an amoire in a smaller room needs feet to make it seem lighter. There are some nice entertainment amoires made for LR TVs and they can be found on CL for a song. A nice secretary as a vanity? ===================== An amoire for TV and clothing? Comments (10)To answer your direct questions: Put the darker color behind the bed headboard and then decide if you want one accent wall (usually a lot of contrast) or if you want to have two walls each color. The Santorini Blue is not baby blue, but I would put a color swatch in your room to see how it looks in different light if you decide to go in that direction. Glass Slipper is more ice blue than baby blue. I LOVE the Santorini blue, but thought it was too dark to have on all four walls. Your bedding is very neutral and very pretty. When I look at it I think "irredesence" or opal. Everyone does this differently, but I tend to decide what I want a room to FEEL like and then go from there. For our bedroom I thought "sleeping in the clouds". Hence, I have blues, whites, creams and beige. For our bathroom I wanted "beach spa". I also suggest you look through the bathroom pictures on the bathroom forum. I found several inspirational rooms that worked with the tile and cabinets we had. I think one of the reasons you are struggling is that you are working with "what matches" instead of what look do I love. Love something, make it work in your room. Having said that, I think your tile would work well with blues, tans or many of the greiges. Whatever you decide, you are likely going to need an accent color since your bedding has wonderful texture, but only one color. Again, look at the bathroom forums pictures and here in gallary under "bathrooms". Which rooms catch your breadth or you say to yourself, "I want that feeling". Good luck!...See MoreHelp me to decide on what paint for my master bedroom?
Comments (6)@Michelle thanks for sharing an image, this is very helpful! If you wanted to keep a monochromatic color scheme in the bedroom, you could paint walls Alabaster since trim is already Alabaster. If you want some more depth to the space, Crushed Ice will give you more of a contrast because it is a few shades darker than Alabaster. What kind of lighting do you have in this space? You could also consider Sherwin Williams Pediment which is one shade lighter than Crushed Ice. Based on the flooring photograph you shared we think both colors will go with the space and flooring no problem. It just comes down to your own preference and the style/feeling you are trying to create in the room. Alabaster will make the room feel slightly larger because it is a light shade. If you do not have great lighting in the evenings in the bedroom, Crushed Ice may read a lot darker than it really is in the evenings, especially if you have bulbs with a yellowish luminescence....See MorePlease help me complete my master bedroom
Comments (5)I usually satrt with the bedding. I think what you have is a bit blah. I think you need some color. I like a really nicely made bed with a couple of accent pillows not a ton. I like king size regular pillows on a queen bed I think your lights and the bed do not really go together . Choose bedding then accent pillows .Remove the fan and that fan light get a nice light fixture that works with your style . Then if you need a fan get aone that can sit on the floor and be put away in the winter. Remove that thing above the bed and thake the mirror off of the dresser. Replace that mirror with a nice piece of art . I like coverlets for bedding and then if you need a duvet do it like the picture here i This pic is just how to make the bed but the next pic is a duvet if you really love them then a couple of nice silver satin pillows and some soft blue linen drapes really full like 3x fullness for sure. I like the lamps in the pic with the duvet for sure thay are a better height and style .Take all the clutter off the night tables and pretty much make it look like a high end hotel room but with better art...See MoreJilly
