Have Heirloom beans, wanted other heirlooms
Comments (8)Hi, smokeymist! Oooh I love collecting heirloom beans. If you have any left of: Barnes Mountain Striped Hull Greasy Cut Short North Carolina Speckled Long Cutshort Greasy Doyce Chambers Grandma Barnett I would like to trade 7 of my beans (seven seeds) for 7 of your beans (seven seeds), so I can grow some out. If you'd rather have squash or carrots, I can spare 12 squash, or about 30 or 40 carrot seeds or so, again in trade for 7 beans. This is what I have - These are all packed for 2011 from Baker Creek or Territorial Seeds: Hidatsa Shield Bean Beurre De Rocquencourt Bush Wax Bean White Rice Bush Bean Bolita Pole Bean McCaslin 42 Pole Bean Red Dragon Carrots Tromboncino squash - I have never used it as a winter squash, but it is our favorite summer squash Thank you! Comments (7)Natal, I planted a bush bean which I think was Festinas or Festiva a couple of years age. They were describe as being the healthiest bean going. They were very good and very juicey. They snap real easy but so do the bushes. Harvest with care. I noticed you mentioned black Valentine. How did they turn out. I'm planting them in my fall garden a few weeks from now. Thanks in advance for any info. "gene"...See Morebest heirloom bean
Comments (16)Hmmmmmmm? All I know is what works for me, Jim. And, keeping in mind that I am, at best, semi-literate when it comes to computers, I actually maintain index cards. Computer-savvy folks probably would want a data base. For my cards, centered at the top is the class of veggie (i.e., "Bean"). Under that is the botanical name. On the left I put the month/year of acquistion. Under that the variety name. And under that who I acquired it from. The rest of the card is used to record any historical data I have, AKA names, specialized culturing info, description of the veggie, etc. I also try to maintain a history of my grow-outs of the variety, and what the results were. Here's an example. Keep in mind that the first two lines will be centered: Common Bean Phaseolus vulgaris Barnes Mtn. Corfield October, 2003 Bill Best A pole snap bean from the Barnes Mountain area of Estill Cty., KY. Collected by Ott McMaine more than 25 years ago, and still grown by his grandson, Carl McMaine. Medium-large pods have deep beany flavor, and do not become woody or fibrous. Almost equal to Tomacco Worm. Hope this helps....See MoreMacmex
