Over the range microwave venting capabilities?
Comments (3)Most have an optional charcoal filter that you can use if you choose the recirculation installation. In the OTR microwave we just installed, it came out of the box ready to vent out the back (for a vented application), but we had to open it up and rotate the fan so it would recirculate instead. An easy method to make sure you are getting one that can vent properly for your application is to check out the unit's dimension guide on ajmadison's website. If you see one that says "Convertible to recirculating", it likely comes ready to vent outside unless you switch the fan. As for your other question, the fan function is separate from the microwave. Just like the light function is separate. There are generally microwave controls, then under that pad you will see the buttons for the fan & light....See MoreNew Construction - need help! Comments (7)Clipshot - then only options presented from the builder are directly from Wolf and the HVAC guys. 1. Different oven with smaller blower. 2. ERV with the current oven and a 900 or 1200 cfm blower - which also does not include the extra cost of any shingles or plywood needed to install the ERV. Roof and shingles are done right now. 3. Move to the Range top with double ovens which means a kitchen re-design and possible delays/extra costs. This option again is without the indoor grill and only 4 burners. I guess I'm having a hard time believing that you need an ERV with 4 burners and a grill on a range top. I even promised to "open a window," but I don't think that will go over well....See MoreWhat is my best option for downdraft recirculation?
Comments (10)@HU-95488141: "Do I need to vent this outside or I am doing something wrong with the vent on the microwave..." Most OTR microwave ovens are pre-configured to exhaust into a duct to the outside. If you want to change the way the oven exhausts or set it to recirculate, you must reconfigure the oven before you install it as shown in Section 2 of these GE installation instructions. The CR-recommended Whirlpool WMH53521HZ is pre-configured for recirculation. So if you want an oven you don't have to monkey with, this would be a good choice....See MoreUnusual kitchen range vent situation
Comments (13)I know I am butting in a bit here, but wanted to let you know that renovating a kitchen piecemeal like that is usually not a good idea. For example, when you put new counters on 40-year-old cabinets, the cabinets will look all the more shabby and dated, and then, when you do decide to re-do the cabinets, you will have to lift the fairly new counters and hope they don't crack (they often do). In addition, older cabinets sometimes are not strong enough to support the heavier weight of new counters if they are granite or Quartz. Older cabinets are also often out of level, and to bring them level to support properly the new counters, well, perhaps it would be better just to have new cabinets. Similarly, a new island while leaving the rest of the cabinets original will just highlight how old they are and how discordant the appearance is with the new island and counters. I am not trying to be Debbie Downer, just wanting you not to throw good money after bad....See MoreMizLizzie
