1940s Ranch Kitchen Remodel-Granite Advice!!
Comments (4)Sounds beautiful, and I think an all-white kitchen can be gorgeous. The black and white tile sounds so classically yummy, though you might want to use something to tie it in with the rest of the kitchen, maybe a white granite with some black/gray in it, like this one (White Alaska in briananddarnell's kitchen): http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg1210253715938.html Or would you entertain the idea of a delicious white MARBLE countertop? Like this one (nini804's kitchen): http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg0922015530019.html Or this one: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg120747399878.html (mythreedogsnc's kitchen): And many others. If you search white granite, white marble, white kitchen, you will find a wealth of possibilities that will make you drool! :-) The other thing I noticed in my search was that all-white kitchens with white subway backsplash look especially good when there's an accent area over the range/cooktop, as in the ones above, giving a gentle focal point....See MoreExterior Paint for 1940s Ranch Home

Comments (16)Thanks everyone for the great tips. I'll drop the red trim idea. FWIW, here's an old picture before we repainted (pardon the car in the front, we'd just bought a Prius. Matches the trim of the house, lol). FWIW, I hated that bright red trim, though at Xmas the door looked pretty with a wreath. Brown Dog thanks for all the tips. (on the mock up, I ran out of time. I actually am supposed to be doing something else right now, now getting sucked into Houzz! ;) Thanks for the point of all the design elements fitting together. That's good advice. BTW, yes my gardening style is "controlled chaos." In that shot, the sweet peas were running a muck. ;) Another question: I am keeping these original windows but in the back, adding Marvin Ultimate (wood interior, alum exterior). The windows will be trimmed out to match the front. What color should I choose for the aluminum cladding in back/ I'm considering Coconut Cream, but there is Stone White or another ivory, Sierra White. thanks! https://www.marvin.com/our-products/options/exterior-finishes...See More1940s brick raised ranch - exterior and curb appeal help!
Comments (3)I like the last mock up except the windows should all be the same , I have never tried painting roof shingles but does not sound like a good idea.. Good plan to remove the bays and those awnings. If the awnings were actually controlling the light and heat from the sun just use soal dhades inside to do the same thing. Please do not paint the brick...See Morekendrahillary
