My ninebark is the species. It grows to about 8 or 9 feet. It's just finished blooming, and while most of the fruit capsules are brown, I have some individuals whose capsules turn red and stay red all summer. Very pretty. Chokeberry is Aronia. I have mostly A. melanocarpa, because I can buy it. Slow growing, but pretty. Coralberry is not the same as snowberry. Same genus, different species. Snowberry is much taller (up to about 4 feet) and doesn't sent out runners. Coralberry stays maybe 2-3 feet tall and sends out long runners in all directions that root. It's good for my islands because it fills in quickly. I plant shrubs very close together--a foot or so. I want the islands to look crowded, and they do after a year or so. I'll try to post some pictures. Most species shrubs do have white flowers. If you're going to go natural, you start to think in terms of what the pollinators like, and they obviously are attracted to clusters of white flowers. I think it's fascinating that the second each species finishes blooming another takes up the slack. It seems to be timed so they don't compete for pollinators--first serviceberry, then crabapples & C. florida, then chokecherry and chokeberry and black cherry, then ninebark, then early viburnums, then shrub dogwood, then later viburnums, then elderberry. I find it fascinating, and I no longer get tired of white flowers.

I have some relatively old BM paint chip catalogs, Caroline and these colors may be what you're looking for: Apache Rede #1295 ...dark burgandy Bermuda Turquoise # 728...very dark green Bone White #03 ...slightly beige white...or... Windsor Beige [which is marked "special prescription"]...which is a slightly darker version of Bone White Frankly...I don't know where they get the names for these colors. "Bermuda Turquoise" has no resemblance to turquoise as far as I can see. Personally...I think they give the job to some little ole person whose office has no windows and his only job in this 8' x 8' room is to invent new names for colors. They only let him/her out once a day and that's after dark. ;-) No offense intended toward anyone who may be a paint namer. Hope the above helps. Anne

Thank you! I had 9 different swatches up on the wall at various points, all with names like "frosty fog" and "first snow," trying to decide on just the right color. I ended up with Glidden Idyllic Blue (available at HD), which is a grayish blue with a very slight hint of purple, just like my granite. The other 8 shades were either too baby-blue, too purple, or too gray. Trim is Dunn Edwards Whisper, which for non-Californians is a standard one-shade-creamier than stark white. Cabinets are maple: "Cashmere" is its official name, but it's pretty close to a natural maple, with a caramel glaze. HTH.

My living room, dining room and spare bedroom, and also the woodwork on the stairs and upper hall, are painted in Behr Navajo White (which is a muted, soft pale yellow; it looks more yellow in the northwest bedroom than it does in the rest of the house where it is more ivory-beige). My family room ceiling is Behr Cottage White -- very similar to Navajo White only lighter. My painter also prefers either Behr or Sherwin Williams. The only thing I didn't like about Behr eggshell the last time I used it (9 years ago, so it may have changed) is that it had just a bit too much of a sheen/shine to it... different than my previous experience with it. So, the rooms mentioned above are now Behr color mixed in Valspar paint.
