Will have more to do with the type 3 1/2" casing as well as doors, baseboards, crown, wall decor, etc than a straight up dimension question.

In theory, you are within the range that will look appropriate. You will also gain an additional 1/4" to 1/2" in perceived casing width given the reveal around the door frame.

But more specifics would help us answer this. What style are you going for? Is the trim flat or what profile does it have? How tall are your baseboard?

The sky's the limit and only budget limits the possibilities.

The casing can be built up into even wider widths with two or three pieces of trim. But, there is an added cost for labor and materials. Single trim is known as speed trim because it's fast to put up and requires less skill, labor and material.

What type of trim should have been specified in your building package/contract. The higher the cost home, the greater the amount and complexity the trim design.

We used a similar style door in one house with 9 ft ceilings (6'8" tall doors) and used 5.25" baseboard in that exact style and 3.5" casing in a similar style and it was sized appropriately. We also used that same style base in 5.25" and 3.5" flat casing with 8 ft ceilings and it was sized appropriately as well. Again, though, it depends on the overall style of your home. When you say that your ceilings are mostly 9 ft ceilings, do you mean that the remainder is 8 ft or 10 ft?

Then those sizes are perfect! The only thing to really be decided is if those casing styles match your overall architectural style which is??????

There is nothing modern about those casings or the door style.

And if the outside is mediterranean, why would you want the inside to not work with the outside?

Those doors do not work at all. They look like kitchen cabinets from the '80s that everyone is ripping out of McMansions. The arch top kills them.

Door handle is fine but I have to agree the arch is not diesel for modern or transitional.

Our home is modern and doors are all flat panel no details. The trim is also without ridges and square. The hardware is simple and without a slope like yours

@cpartist Would the door handle and base and casing trims I picked out work for Meditterranean inside? I had arches at my exterior therefore I have arched interior doors too. I think I'll stay with more traditional style then.

It might help if you post some pics of your exterior and what your vision for the interior is.

If you look at Mediterranean styled exteriors, living rooms, etc. on this site, there is a ton of leeway on trimwork. What you've chosen could very well fit your envisioned style or it might not. I would think leaning more transitional than modern would be a better fit, though.

I think your chosen trim profiles *could* work with something similar ^^^.

There are thousands of decisions to be made and if you don't have a clear vision, which is obvious that you don't, might I suggest you hire an interior designer to at least nudge you in a direction that will work for you?

I think you need more help than crowd sourcing here on the internet can help you with.

@juliacali all of the trim looks traditional almost colonial in my opinion. I like cpartist suggestion of an interior designer. It is so easy to get sidetracked from your vision that it is important to get it all down and decided before you get stuck in the middle of a build. You may end up with something that didn't fit your original design and then your stuck with something mismatched.
