The spring migrants are beginning to show up now. I've seen about 25 red-winged blackbirds for the last few days and a grackle and a brown-headed cowbird.

Grackles are often maligned but they're pretty birds, if you overlook the glaring eye.



Suspicion is useful if you're concerned about predators (or suet thieves).


I heard the red-wings singing yesterday. Unfortunately I can't record the song since it's not open-window season yet.

It's coming, though.
