Lol sandyslopes, I have no Ornithogalum. Ooh that one is lovely and very well behaved from what I just read. I was only familiar with O. umbellatum. Very nice indeed!

Ornithogalum (star-of-Bethlehem); only tried O. umbellatum; latter, too much of a spotty spreader for me. Was also a bit leggy.

sunnyborders yes O. umbellatum is said to be a spreader and in the mid-west is considered to be weedy and potentially invasive per Missouri Botanical Garden. As always location matters. So I take it you successfully eradicated it from your garden?

The only spring bulbs I've needed to fight, for years, in several gardens (all the bulbs were planted at the same time) are Chionodoxa and Puschkinia. Of course, different gardeners have different tastes, but personally I like mixed herbaceous perennial beds which appear to be neat and tidy. Some garden-loving non-gardeners also feel the same way. On one past occasion, I sounded one of my long-term customers out about the Chionodoxa and Puschkinia I'd planted, in ignorance, in her garden. I was delighted to learn that she felt the same way as me and, by now, have just about eliminated these particular spring bulbs from there as well!

Glad you were able to rid yourself of the O. u. in a fairly quick fashion.

So easy to understand why you would have planted the Chionodoxa and Puschkinia in the first place though, they look so pretty & innocent. Too bad it has taken years to get these under control.

I had a friend just about tearing her hair out over Scilla siberica, they were everywhere! I adore blue but I am relieved I avoided that one. I must research named varieties or other species though because they are lovely.

Re Scilla siberica, I also was forewarned and avoided planting it. At the same time, I'd certainly agree that sheets of flowering S. siberica can be very attractive in restricted locations.

What a wonderfully intricate little flower. I adore it. I just spent the last few minutes alternately admiring and laughing at the flower structure. The mimicry of a bee is incredible but one pic in particular looked like Donald Duck!
