Dem Hollis-Bill Requires Vasectomy After 50th B-Day Or After 3rd Child

Democrat proposes bill mandating all men have vasectomy at age 50 or after third child

  • Sean Ross

MONTGOMERY — State Rep. Rolanda Hollis (D-Birmingham) on Thursday filed a bill that would mandate every Alabama man to undergo a vasectomy within one month of his 50th birthday or the birth of his third biological child, whichever comes first.

Democrats in the Alabama legislature last year brought up the possibility of introducing such a bill during the abortion debate on 2019’s HB 314, known as the Human Life Protection Act.

“Under existing law, there are no restrictions on the reproductive rights of men,” states the introduction to Hollis’ new bill, HB 238.

The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

HB 238 specifically would mandate each vasectomy occur at the respective man’s “own expense.”

During the debate on the Human Life Protection Act in 2019, Hollis read from a poem “If My Va*ina was a Gun,” comparing the Second Amendment rights debate to the debate over a woman’s right to an abortion.

Love it...I hope the men who think they should get to decide about women's reproductive health learn a lesson here.

Guys there is a male birth control! And it works.

But guess what? The side effects are brought on by alcohol so men won’t take it.

LOL women can use self control over their libido and can pay for myriad methods of birth control and suffer through sometimes debilitating side effects and can face the decision between abortion or birth if they become impregnated despite their efforts at prevention but men? Can’t even stop drinking long enough to stop their swimmers for a few years without puking all over.

But clearly men are the superior sex who rightfully rule the world. No women presidents! Alpha Male! /s

Don't try to twist it, miss lindsey. Birth control in volunteer action.

Proposed is a mandatory sterilization of the group of citizens over 50 yo.

It's not a birth control, has nothing to do with it. It's fascism.

Men should adopt the stance, "My body, my choice."

It has worked well for women.

Let's start earlier than 50, so we can end the abortion issue. (that's sarcasm)

Where's the bill that mandates the killing of their children in the womb of the women they impregnate? That's the only corollary, or are those Democrats so stupid they don't realize that no one is proposing the sterilization of women?

Anti-abortion laws force mandatory gestation.

In both cases human beings are forced to undergo physical alterations medically without their consent.

The only difference is, one law is hyperbolic satire and the other is being enforced in real life on real people.

Would this law include celibate priests (if there are any) and gay men? It would seem to be a waste of medical costs to force gay men to have a vasectomy. I'm over 60 and have never had sex with a woman or ever wanted to. My brother got a vasectomy voluntarily after his third child was born, when he found out that his wife refused to take birth control pills, and he was under 40.

I think this law would be better for countries where the birth rate is much higher than the U.S.

Interesting points Lars.

Well many, many priests have fathered children that were aborted so I don’t think they should be exempt.

And there are some states that want to make abortion illegal even in the case of rape so I’m sure some gay women will be forced to continue a pregnancy they would never have conceived willingly.

So I’m going to have to go with no, gay guys aren’t exempt either, since gay women aren’t exempt from anti-abortion rape laws.

(please understand I write ironically)

Hilarious thread!

I thought the anti-choice conservatives were bragging about their great senses of humor on past threads. And they accused Democrats of having none.

If this thread is the test, I'd say the pro-choicers win, wouldn't you?

The funniest thing about this thread is the po-faced high dudgeon from those who think a sense of humour is something to do with a bone in the upper arm. It's not just hilarious -- they bought it!

This is funny but she does have a point

“The vasectomy bill is to help with the reproductive system, and yes, it is to neutralize the abortion ban bill ... it always takes two to tango," she told AL.com. “We can’t put all the responsibility on women. Men need to be responsible also.”

Men who satisfy the aforementioned requirements would have to pay for the procedure on their own, much how women in Alabama take on the bill of their reproductive health care needs.
