Antarctica Temp hits ca. 70F (20C), breaking continental record

THOR, Son of ODIN(2)

Breaking a record set a few days ago by nearly 5F.

February 13 at 10:05 PM

A weather research station on Seymour Island in the Antarctic Peninsula registered a temperature of 69.3 degrees (20.75 Celsius) on Feb. 9, according to Márcio Rocha Francelino, a professor at the Federal University of Vicosa in Brazil.

The nearly 70-degree temperature is significantly higher than the 65-degree reading taken Feb. 6 at the Esperanza Base along Antarctica’s Trinity Peninsula.

I might plant an orange tree, nyuk. So far this winter the lowest temp here has not dropped below 20F, not once which is very unusual. We're still picking collards which should have been a frozen mush 2 months ago. My plums trees are blooming now which is about 2 weeks ahead of time.

Weather is not climate.

I believe this has been pointed out many many times before.

____________

What is the difference between weather and climate?

Weather reflects short-term conditions of the atmosphere while climate is the average daily weather for an extended period of time at a certain location.

Weather is what you see outside on any particular day. So, for example, it may be 75° degrees and sunny or it could be 20° degrees with heavy snow. That’s the weather.

Climate is the average of that weather. For example, you can
expect snow in the Northeast in January or for it to be hot and humid in
the Southeast in July. This is climate. The climate record also
includes extreme values such as record high temperatures or record
amounts of rainfall. If you’ve ever heard your local weather person say
“today we hit a record high for this day,” she is talking about
climate records.

So when we are talking about climate change, we are talking about changes in long-term
averages of daily weather. In most places, weather can change from
minute-to-minute, hour-to-hour, day-to-day, and season-to-season.
Climate, however, is the average of weather over time and space.

The hottest day on record isn't climate, either.

High school debate classes? That explains a lot.

Climate is an average that only exists on paper. It has nothing to do with nature. I think this has been explained many times.

It is surprising how many on Hot Topics do not follow the most basic rules of debate.

From Vgkg's link:

Earth just had hottest January since records began, data shows

Average global temperature 2.5F above 20th-century average

Last month was the hottest January on record over the world’s land and
ocean surfaces, with average temperatures exceeding anything in the 141
years of data held by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric

something to do, now, that is worth while .... plan a week of meals without beef? buy as much of your food from local sources as possible? walk to your errands, or if not possible, plan & schedule your errands so as to minimize driving? investigate installing solar panels on your house? vacation locally this year instead of flying? encourage your local schools, businesses, and corporations to "go solar"? No one person's single action will influence the rate of global warming, but imagine if ALL of us did one or two achievable actions that helped a little bit. Maybe we'd buy enough time for our grandkids to figure out a better course of action for their grandkids.

No, that is weather records. Climate is an average. Thousands of weather records are broken everyday. In the last 7 days, the U.S. broke 2,159 low temperature records.
